Well this weekends trip to my cousins wedding turned out to be better than I thought
Like many of us do when traveling to diff towns I decided to find a coin shop to visit. Located one about 10 minutes drive and made the trip.
Instantly felt it was going to be a wasted trip. Typical small town shop with trays of common lincolns and cleaned silver dollars. Also had the 3 cleaned and ugly
bust halves that every shop seems to have. Dealer was very friendly and I inquired about the possibility of there being any more Bust halves.
After about 5 minutes of digging he came back with an ugly cleaned 1836 and this 1807. At first I didn't take too close a look at the 1807, not as original as I usually like
and the price tag was too high for a typical 1807. After about 5 minutes my brain finally kicked in and I realized what I was holding was an O113a Small stars.
Suddenly the price tag was very reasonable.
Coin has been cleaned in the past, but has retoned a bit and is actually fairly presentable. Now I just have to decide if it is good enough to replace my other O113a
I grade it as a F15. Typical weak strike on the reverse with an obverse that is fairly close to VF.

Makes me want to drive from town to town and find some nice cherries myself.
Congrats again and I'm sure you won't soon forget your cousin's wedding day.

Now I'm glad you're happy, but if it is cleaned as it obviously looks like it, and it was priced higher than a typical 1807, help me to understand here. I'm assuming it had to be real cheap but by your description it doesn't appear that way. I want to share the joy with you.
Edit, I now see your post above so that helps me a little bit.
<< <i>Nice pick up!I love cherry picking the small mom & pop coin shops. They probably paid just above melt for it. >>
Hope that was a JK post since very few dealers do stuff like that, yet every collector thinks the vast majority do.
