anyone have a clue why a VF20 1879-CC Morgan would be bid up to $1500 at Heritage?

The online auction is underway right now, although Morgans are still a ways off. The coin in question is:
Lot 8141
1879-CC $1 VF20 PCGS
Number of Bidders: 6
Current Bid: $1,500 (plus the 15% commission!)
Minimum Bid: $1,600
This is ridiculous. Current Greysheet for VF is $235 Ask and AU is $1600 Ask. There are no VAM varieties which would explain this lunatic bidding. Anyone have any ideas?
Link.

When in doubt, don't.

If so, maybe someone needs it really badly for a grading set?

so badly they could spend the difference travelling to find one in a dealers shop for less?

Believe me, it can be expensive to submit multiple coins to PCGS hoping they'll give at least one of them the grade that you really need for your set. But I'm not sure it's that expensive

XF Ask is $610.
My guess is two folks examined the lot in person and found the coin is a partial collar - something you can't tell from the photos.

Sold for $1725 with the commission. Unbelieveable.
The Ls are strange. Never seen that before, and it looks like extra metal, rather than moved metal from coin-to-coin hits. Very interesting.

That's what I was thinking...
