Going through a pile-O-cents today, found this...

<< <i>The exact same thing happened to me last week and sorry to say it stuck to a magnet, but I'l tell you what I was so excited for awhile because I had to go out and get a magnet. Then I was Bummed out.

I remember that, did you post a pic?
Now that my 15 seconds of near fame has passed...how did this Steelie get so copper toned? Even the scratches look copper????

I once found a "1914-D" that had a rather wide space between the 9 and the second 1. In other words, an altered 1944-D.
And then there was the other time I found a 1914-D.
Thanks.

Plated.
Looks like it got plated well, though. You can see wear and there's no steel peekin' through. They must've put a pretty good layer of copper on.
If you take any acidic household cleaner and a suede shoe brush, you can make them. Put the acidic cleaner on the steel cent and rub it with the suede shoe brush (Copper bristles). After a few minutes, it turns copper colored. Many years ago, I made them in Hawaii and sold them at the Aloha Swap Meet to tourists. That is probably one I did!
NO PLATING INVOLVED!
