Got 29 cents back today from the grocery store, just checked it, all 4 cents were new log splitters, but on one something looked funny...

I've only followed briefly the posts about there being severall DDR for this series- the one about the mint box shipping dates etc., are many of these being found in change? Should I rush back to the grocery store for some munchies tonight? First time I have ever been "in" on the opening of DD discovery- when they could still be found in change that is.

That coin has been "thumbed" and PCGS will never grade it! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Huh? Are you calling me a liar? ( I admit I had to look up veracity in the dictionary). These coins are all over the upstate NY town I shop in- the rail splitters LP2's that is, but this is the first ddr variety I found so far...I posted around the 4th or just before of finding my first ones at the Walmart, a gas station and then the same grocery store I got the 4 from tonight. My brother got 4 from Lowe's last night as well in same town. Guess I gotta find something I can buy for 96 cents tomorrow and use a $2 bill and ask for my change in pennies.

Not going to guess one way or the other.

IF they are coming from bank boxes, there is very little chance they will hit the popularity now or in the future of the 2 roll box varieties (IE wddr 1-13). I think theres enough people with a vested interest in those to keep that fire out.

I spoke with another dealer who scanned HUNDREDS of boxes by louping the ends through the holes of bank boxes. NADA.

*Update* Today's finds: I found out first it was hard to find anything in a grocery store that was priced at 96 cents (here in NY state food items are not taxed), so I needed to find the cheapest item(s) priced ending in 9 cents- luckily there was a special on Mac-n-cheese store brand in the box- 49 cents each, so by buying 4 each time I would get at least 4 cents back each time. I managed to make 4 trips to the same market (well 4 trips to car and back) and acquired 15 of the rail splitters- got one 1997 in one lot. The results- 3 DDR 2 of one type and one of another, neither the same as the one I received last night from same store. Here they are:

So yes folks they are in bank boxes, and yes I think tomorrow I may head to the local banks and see if this is where they are coming from. And the trip to the local Walmart today yielded only one log splitter and it was a normal one. Now does anyone need any mac-n-cheese? image

Get as many as you can and start fliping on the bay. image some times if you ask they will give you some rolls just ask the Manager and tell them you are a collector they will do it for you.

The bottom one looks wild! Almost photoshopped. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt! Very nice find and unlike any others I've seen!

My suggestion. If you are in it to sell these coins for more money than one cent, I suggest you get your sucker real quick and flip them real quick. This is NOT a rare variety by any means and there is a very limited group of people who would collect them IMHO. Any anyone who truly collects Lincoln cents really only needs ONE copy of each variety to form a complete collection. Good luck with your collection. Steveimage

Don't be shocked if all you find is spotted coins for all your troubles. You may find some of the more minor varieties in the bank rolls but I DO NOT believe you got a CDDR-002 from a "bank roll". You may have gotten a lucky break from somebody spending their damaged ones like I would do here. Some In the rolls I have opened from the mint sets are damaged by the rolling machine or have a piece of metal on the surface causing it to show a rust stain which is not a good coin to sell or put into my own collection, someone either spent it or gave it back to the bank is my thinking of that one possibly I do believe there are some in bank rolls just not the one in your first post. Good luck though in your search and Congrats on finding some in a store. When you actually find one in a tight wrapped bank roll then let us know.

None of the 4 I have found so far have any roller damage (maybe some of the typical spotting you see on the new coins)- maybe one of nearly the half roll of normal ones I have collected so far did have some- I remember seeing at least one like that. As for someone spending these locally- I highly doubt it- I don't live in the burbs of NY, I live in the wilderness part- think Syracuse/Albany is upstate NY?- I am about 150 miles north of Syracuse- not many collectors up here willing to shell out what $10 for 2 rolls from mint and then spend them.

I almost forgot to mention the funniest part of the in-out trips at the store. On my last purchase I was expecting the four pennies as usual- then I saw the pennies sitting on the top of the register and the clerk reaching for one- yes she gave me a nickel back after dropping one from the top into the till ! I politely asked If I could have the pennies instead- I collected them after all- she said - oh, you mean the new ones? I said yes, and was going to ask for more, but she quickly opened her draw, dropped the nickel back and handed me 4 coins then slammed it shut- guess I was holding up the express lane too long.

And by the way, which of the above is the DDR-2? I went to coppercoins.com, but all the varieties I saw there had me thinking the top coin was DDR-6 with doubled index finger.

Yeah I almost got up the nerve to ask one of the cashiers for a roll, but Sunday shopping was pretty busy. I kinda enjoy the hunt anyways, think I might visit Lowe's, Walmart, and some of the gas stations around town tomorrow as well as the banks and have some fun. I don't think I would bother with flipping them on the bay now- the new fees and I see alot already on there not selling for much, but it would be fun to try and find all the different ones for my own collection and maybe trading or offering a few here in a give-away- I see I'm coming up on 1000 posts!
