I'd say yes, you can have a coin in your pocket for show without having it in there for the sole purpose of accelerated wear.

Sure! Why not?
After all, it is in the pocket.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
The name is LEE!

Agree. For a coin to be a pocket piece, it needs to be in your pocket and not in a slab in your pocket.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

It depends on your definition of a "pocket piece".

Actually depends on the definition of "protective capsule"...and if "capsule" is used as a verb...
capsule taken from the French origination then no...but as an English translation posssibilities
of interpertation are almost endless....

Be careful!!!!!!!!
If you sit down and the capsule cracks and
the coin falls out you may have crack damage!!!!

No....Half the thrill with a pocket piece is you always run the risk of accidently spending it.
Like I did with a bashlow restrike CSA cent...........

This question is too deep for me to ponder.
I will have to meditate upon it for a while.

Rob, usually my meditation ends with a flushing sound.....

IMHO, yes. My pocket piece is a slabbed 1904-S AU-55 ANACS $20 Lib. The ANACS slabs are quite durable I have found.
The slab is the "pocket piece", which just happens to contain a $20 Lib...LOL.

I think its set by the person thats carrying the piece. Its a personal thing and anything goes IMHO.
I have a raw 79 Morgan and its getting worn nicely.
