I really wish all things could be that simple. It is really sad sometimes what is posted on these boards. There seems to be some here that think they know everything and when others have a different point of view they blast because they see things differently, flame them, and call them holier than thou. I was quoted out of context with selective quotes to make others think I said something different than my intentions. A few small coin purses with some coins turned into the expectation of a dealer to go through 850,000 coins. That is simply not what I said. The discussion was sure an interesting one.
Many of us are members of ANA, PNG or both. I think the behavior is out of bounds with the professionalism that should of happened with that particular situation. Many here thought it should be the responsibility of the seller to learn about the coins before he sold them. That is simply not that easy. If you go have your portrait taken you don't need to learn photography first; that is why you go to a professional. If you have a new roof put on your house you hire a professional; if you sell your house you hire a professional, if you have your car repaired you take it to a professional, etc. If you sell a coin to a professional, shouldn't you expect some basic professionalism?
There were a couple real simple solutions in which I'll list here, but there are probably many more...
1) They can contact their local media and say a customer had a rare coin they missed and would like to make things right. There is enough information in the description with the missing jewelery for the person to know it was or wasn't them.
2) In the future, they could tell customers before they sell their coins we don't have the time to go through coins looking for rarities, and if you would like to do that before the sale we would be happy to sell you a blue book, or possibly supply a list of the keys.
3) Donate the proceeds to ANA, PNG, or other worthy cause.
You see there is a lot of gray area.
Right now on these very board there is a thread about coin doctors, a thread about some sellers on ebay, and probably many more about protecting the consumer. Why do we worry about protecting some consumers, but not an old man who sold some coins, in a couple coin purses, to a professional coin dealer in a coin shop?
You see, I am at least consistent, but there are some on these boards who change their point of view depending on the situations. If I ever run into you at a show, I'm sure you wouldn't be upset if I stopped by and we had a discussion. This world sure would be boring if we thought the same. Could you imagine every house looked the same, everyone drove the same car in the same color, we had coins again like the very Barber that started this (how boring would coin collecting be if every coin looked the same)?

It's a shame that a lot of you obviously have never met Mr. SeaEagle in person.IMHO,Larry is one of the good guys in this hobby, always a pleasure to talk to,wheather it be coins or some other subject.Yes he has the gift of gab,but he'll be honest with you and and tell you like it is and always has some thought provoking ideas and then some.He dose'nt need me to defend him,he does that very well on his own.JMHO.
It was not my intent to be a street fighter as a child. My mom taught me that I should "kill people with kindness, especially those who are least deserving of kindness".
Well, this one day, I came home "tore up". My shirt was ripped and I was bloodied. It would have been fine if she'd backed me up, but instead she asked me what had happened. I told her "kindness" doesn't work with bullies, so I had to teach him another lesson. The problem was; I lost. Then my mom grounded me. Double whammies suck.
I was NOT one of the "pita" posters on the other thread, just said I wouldn't judge, and added how a very honest dealer in my area happens to work. However, it does irk me that you are judging all the posters who thought the guy got ripped. I've seen a lot of "evil dealer" posts on this forum, saying that some old woman got taken advantage of, simply because she didn't know what she had. Is this okay in your book? Is it okay as long as the dealer didn't bother checking them until later? I'm still not judging, but I think you should not judge either. Some of the posters simply thought there is a difference between a "few coin purses" and a bucket of junk silver. I'm not judging Keets, but I would not do business with that particular shop. I guess that makes me a "pita" after all.

First I must acknowledge the post by another poster several posts back... that it is difficult ,at best, to communicate effectively in the written form... still, I will attempt to clarify my OP...
It was not my intention to judge others... rather... it was to express my desire to exercise my sense of better judgement... to not wish to deal with folks who insist on judging others with an air of superiority and meanness. I have also expressed in this thread my hope that no one here was so locked into needing to be mean to others, that they would put themselves in the category of folks who should "keep on walking" past my table, rather than stop.
BTW, Treeman...I actually liked what you posted to "that" thread...
Yet my OP, while fueled by "that" thread... was really a sharing of thought based on numerous instances on this forum ... where some folks seem to consider themselves above reproach and think they are in a position to lash out at others...pass summary judgements...jump to conclusions based on misunderstanding and inuendo... and just act plain mean...
I take exception to such behavior and chose to voice my thoughts and concerns...
If one were to read ALL I have "said" in this thread, you might be able to see that my true intent is not to put off anyone nor anger them... rather to share my thoughts and hopefully inspire others to think, as well... and to consider another persons feelings... to communicate rather than simply react...
in other words... perhaps we can try to "talk" with each other rather than at each other...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free

Understandable. All I meant to do by my above post, was to explain that I could certainly understand where the negative posters were "coming from". Though it may seem cynical on my part, I honestly think that most posters may have been more negative if the same post was made by someone who was not a "regular" on the board. Of course, that statement only strengthens your point in this post....
An excellent post and thank you for it. I too posted to the other thread, and considered not doing so. Now I will go back and check to see how that played out as well.
I look forward to seeing you again at a show up your way.
What I would add is that we do not 'hear' the tone of the poster. Many times, if a 'funny' icon is not added, what should have been taken as a joke is taken seriously & things tend to quickly take a turn for the worst. Sometimes not adding a comma changes the way we perceive what is being said.
There also seems to be a few clique's here where, if your not a friend of my friend, then I'm no friend of yours!
Then there's deals not made, or bad deals made....those have an effect on how 2 members treat each other with replies to threads created.
Lastly, there are an occasional TROLL. AAAHHHH. Probably alts just to stir things up. Hate 'em the most.
