FOUR Errors in One Lincoln Cent!

ThePennyLadyThePennyLady Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭✭✭
Here's a very interesting error Lincoln cent I just got back from having Todd (bluccphotos.com) photograph it for me. It has four different errors: Off center, Double Clips, Uniface Reverse, on a Fragment Planchet! Pretty hard to imagine that one coin could have so many mistakes "by accident"! Would love to see some more outrageous errors, so please post some!

Triple Struck 194?... I'm figuring it's a 1944 or 1945 Philly as there's a few errors for these years. image

  • Sweet coin. My first coin ever bought at a show was in Baltimore. It was a Jefferson with 5 errors. Double clipped, chain strike, off center 25% or so, brockaged, and stretch strike. I paid $15 for it and still have it somewhere.

The Only Known Wheat Proof Double Struck Mint Error Known which I placed in a friends Lincoln collection, who had to have it to go with his 55 DDO. I still see it regularly though so it almost feels like I own it! image

    Crazy, man.

I'm no error/variety guy but stuff like that and the first Wheatie Broadstruck posted could definitely turn my head (edit- the new piece above my post is neat, too).

    That's a 1969 to 1970s vintage Lincoln in the OP, isn't it?

How do I know that? (Or think that, because of course I could be wrong). Just the way the dies are, I suppose. I didn't realize it until now but I can look at Lincoln's coat and shoulder and LIBERTY and tell it is probably a 1970s era cent.

    Unless I'm wrong, of course.

1970's would be my guess too.

Funny about how much sinks in subconsciously. Like the thread about the fake 1909-S cent last night. I knew immediately when I saw it that it was a blatant fake. Initially I couldn't say WHY I knew it was fake, though, aside from the date numerals, which were all wrong.

I guess if you look at enough coins, eventually your eye tunes in on fine details that aren't even in the front of your mind. Seeing the left side of your error cent there made me think of a BU roll of Die #3 1972 DDO cents I once scored in a lot I bought. I knew right away your coin was 1970-something (or 1969 at the earliest).

Me too. When I saw the left side, first thing I thought was 1969-1973

Look at the O of ONE on the original strike. Maybe up around PLURIBUS also.

Nice error, PL....they didn't have room on the insert to mention the strike against a planchet on the reverse!

One thing also about this error is that it really has some depth to it. The coin is not flat, almost folded a little, not much because it fits in a slab. It is just an interesting piece.
