A few Merc Dimes.

Dug the set out of the deposit box for a few hours today and replaced a few coins with coins that have a little color. Then I decided to try again for a somewhat decent picture of the set. Did it in three parts and then put it together with photoshop and this is what turned out. Enjoy if you like Merc Dimes.

Atleast now I can somewhat see what the set looks like on my computer.

    Ken: Pretty set.

Is that a scratch on the 1916-D dime? image

Very timely...and I just happen to have a question re a 1921D Merc dime. I have the opportunity to buy a slabbed strong AU for about $900...but it would be going into an all MS set.

Should I "settle" for the AU or splurge for a medium tier MS 1921D? What do you think will appreciate more at this point?

Keeping in mind that my rationale for buying a 1921P in the future would be similar, what would you do?

Will I look at those AUs in the future and like them or hate them?

    "Is this an AU set?"

Yes this is a AU set before 1934. A couple of the common dates before 1934 are MS. For the most part the coins after 1934 are MS.

"Will I look at those AUs in the future and like them or hate them?"

I think your sense of accomplishment of putting a strick AU/BU set together will override any hate factor. AU sets of Merc dimes are very tough to do. I would say a MS set would be easier. This set has been worked on for close to 5 years and finding true AU coins is rough.

"What do you think will appreciate more at this point?"

I have no crystal ball so I cannot help you with this.

Thanks guys/gals for the nice compliments.
