The poster should say "FORTY FIVE" "Because I can't lift a forty four".

Poor timing on this thread. Anyway, the "basket case" is smiling too.

guns are good.....................if you're at home.
alarms are good.....................but they can be beaten.
safes are good......................but they can be opened.
insurance is good.....................but what do you really want, the money or your coins??

in the end, the best thing to do is to keep your coins in the bank SafeDepositBox.

Ten (yes, TEN!!!) cats, three dogs, and a horse.

No burglar is gettin' into this house without trippin' over some kind of fargin' animal!

If you enjoy seeing your coins, doesn't this defeat the goal of collecting?
  • Take nice images if you want to see them often; however, my stuff is in the bank!

Most burglaries are crimes of oportunity. You can go a long way to keeping your coins safe by following a few common sense things.

    1. Make sure your doors and windows are locked when you leave home.

    2. Make sure your coins are locked up when you are not viewing them.

3 Don't advertise the fact that you collect coins. Don't tell people that you don't completely know and trust, and especially tell your kids not to tell people.

These simple things will detour most criminals. Just having locked doors will detour most ciminals.

The electronics in my living room are worth more than my coins and much easier for a thief to sell as well. Thus, I keep my electronics in a storage unit. Whenever I want to look at my TV I just pull out my Polaroid of it.

Like MPLunatic and hammered54, I, too, own magical guns capable of protecting my goods even when I am not at home.

I prefer my mossberg with double 000 buck shot, or my Ruger GP100 or my Ruger Blackhawk with 110 grain semi-jacketed hollow points.

And if they make it out the door I'll go to my Remington 700 or my M1 Garand with 150 grain spire points.

I keep my coins in a cabinet marked in large letters:

    "VALUABLE GOLD AND SILVER COINS"

Of course, I keep other things in that cabinet as well. And there's a special latch that really ought to be opened a particular way.
Don't get me wrong, the door opens either way you manipulate the latch.

Here's what's on the front shelf.
