Ill look it up online if anyone hasnt seen it, but did any of you read tyhe article about B. Crawford getting robbed after a show recently?
If so, is he ok? I dont know him personally, but he is a pretty 'big' name in Lincolns. (My old series.)
I do recall seeing in another CW after that issue, that there was some issues with the story of what did happen, and I dont recall seeing any threads here about it.
Anyone know what Im talking about?

Pretty fishy to me, are we on the same page or am I thinking of a differnt story?
I figure with him being a well known guy in numismatics, there would be something here about it...

......that's why i commented earlier.
Both the original story and the follow up story are in issues, March 16, 2009 & April 6, 2009. On pages 58 for the first story and 68 for the second one.
Heres basically what happened...
Mr Crawford was 'set up' at a show in South Carolina. After leaving the show, he stopped for a bite to eat and was 'attacked' afterwards while walking to his car. Two black men in silver colored winter parkas came up and took his suitcase. He first said no one said anything to him or brandished a weapon. Then he says the one man demanded "Give me your suitcase."
Later in the first stroy, Det Jason Forsythe is quoted as saying, " The investigation is ongoing."
In the second story, the follow up, Det Jason Frosythe says Crawfords claim of an ongoing investigation is "completely flase'.
Also, Det Forsythe is Crawfords brother in law.
So, did CW not check their info and just take Crawfords word for it? Or did some one lie?
Then in the follow up, Randy Clark, president of the Low Country Coin Club and the bourse chairmen at the Winter coin show that Crawford claims to have set up at.
He claims Crawford was and I quote "Mr Crawford did not have a table at the show, and to my knowledge did not attend our show in any form."
Claimed stolen property was roughly $15000 in error ans variety coins, and a Lincoln discovery piece, a 1996 Wide AM with rotated dies. Possibly worth $4-5K.
What I find very fishy is that according to Crawford, "No official police report, or insurance claim has been filed. ??? WHY?
So, who do we believe and what really happened?
I really cant believe this story hasnt generated more interest...
<<Edited out.>>
Have never read it before myself... or the original & any follow-ups.
Seems odd that with someone as well known as him, this story wouldnt bring more interest...
As for the Crawford story, I really don't care to discuss Billy's case or question what occured and suspect others feel the same way which is probably why the story has not generated any "interest".
He has an email address, why don't you contact him directly to find out what happened? ( dievarieties@sc.rr.com )
The name is LEE!
Really? I find it very interesting. Coin robberies are a big thing in this hobby and when an expert/author gets robbed, I tend to think it may be of interest. Then to read that the story has many areas in it that are fishy, makes it even more interesting.....
<< <i>I don't know how happy Coin World will be about you posting that Raquel which is why I try to avoid doing so. >>
I hadn't planned on leaving it up for long - I assumed it would be better to show the entire article (since it's being discussed) than just certain quotes from it... but I guess the quoted portions will have to do.
If you know him, I full understand. I do not. I dont mind questioning anything in the article, its coin news. Just because some might know him doesnt mean we all do. I know of him, Ive read his work for some time and I think he is an asset to this hobby.
But that doesnt mean when a story like this, not too many coin theft stories like this, we shouldnt talk about it or ask questions. CW thought it was interesting enough to print the 2 articles.
<<He has an email address, why don't you contact him directly to find out what happened? ( dievarieties@sc.rr.com )>>
Obviously theres some inconsistencies with the story and facts, and why would I get any different from the source?
