So about these Jeffersons with the wrong reverse...

Is there an way other than the steps on Monticello to diagnose them? I have a couple of these dates from circulation so, as you can imagine, the steps are mashed up mush.

Those in Red Book form late 30s early 40s.

EDIT- Actually they're not in Red Book but are in Cherrypickers. Anyway, I'm referring to the "1940 Rev. of 1938" and the like.

I think the FS-023 and FS-024 are only on proofs.
It's probably not likely to find on a circulated coin unless it was a circulated proof.

That's true but the rare ones in the CPG are the proofs.
The CPG says all 3 mints of 1939 are easy to find both ways.
It might not matter which type you have unless you want both types and then you probably need to find one with steps to ID it.

the line for the first step at the first and fourth pillar - need over XF to tell - well circulated probably does not matter

do some blow-ups at Heritage and you will be able to learn the 'wavy-38' and 'straight-40'

A little advice: Unless the CPG variety is obvious, be very careful as the CPG is only a "guide" and many, many of the varieties look alot alike. The 1971-S DDO Ike Proofs have coins which have very similar doubling. The only real method of determining what variety you have is to use followup documentation and sometimes even thats a little iffy.

CONECA's attributors only charge $5.00 per coin and they are spot on in determining which variety you actually have.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
