So about these Jeffersons with the wrong reverse...
Is there an way other than the steps on Monticello to diagnose them? I have a couple of these dates from circulation so, as you can imagine, the steps are mashed up mush.

EDIT- Actually they're not in Red Book but are in Cherrypickers. Anyway, I'm referring to the "1940 Rev. of 1938" and the like.
It's probably not likely to find on a circulated coin unless it was a circulated proof.

That's true but the rare ones in the CPG are the proofs.
The CPG says all 3 mints of 1939 are easy to find both ways.
It might not matter which type you have unless you want both types and then you probably need to find one with steps to ID it.
do some blow-ups at Heritage and you will be able to learn the 'wavy-38' and 'straight-40'
