Halladay on the move?

gosteelersgosteelers Posts: 2,668 ✭✭✭
As per FoxSports:

What a bidding war this would be:

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said Sunday that he's willing to listen to offers for right-hander Roy Halladay.

It's the first time Ricciardi has publicly admitted that his ace is on the block. "We have to see what's out there," said the GM. "I'm not saying we're going to shop him. But if something makes sense, we at least have to listen. We're (leaning) more toward listening than we've ever been." It's going to take a large package of prospects, but the Jays can expect several phone calls.

I hope for his sake that he has a no trade option in his contract. Maybe he already does - after you spend 10 years in the bigs with 5 years on one team don't you automatically get this? The reason I bring this up is he should veto a trade to any team not in contention - he put his time in Toronto, he needs to be with a high profile team to finally get a chance to shine in the spotlight. Can you believe he only has 1 Cy Young award? If he had been playing for a high profile team he'd have a few more.

Goodbye Ian Kennedy, Humberto Sanchez, Phil Hughes, Aceveda, and Melky! LOL

I know that isnt going to happen...I was being crazy there before some of you want to jump all over that.

Actually, it would be interesting to see the Mets get him. It may be a battle for Halladay between the Mets and Phillies because he could certainly be the edge that wins either of them the NL East depending on what they give up.

WHo are you going to be giving up, Werth, Victorino, Ibanez? On second thought, they woulnd want ibanez, maybe you could give them utley lol.

your team is built on offense, are you willing to give a large chunk of that up for a pitcher you wont be able to afford next year? And I dont think you have a lot of talent in your far system, but i may be wrong, good luck with that.

Last year the Giants were talking with the Jays about trading for Alex Rios. First reports were that they wanted Cain or Lincecum, plus a prospect... but after the Giants broke off talks, it was said that the Jays were actually asking for Cain AND Lincecum, plus a prospect. Who did the Jays think they were dealing with, the Pirates? image

Latest is that Halladay and Vernon Wells are both on the move if the price is right.

From what I understand, the payroll of the 2010 Blue Jays is going to balloon. ESPN radio said that between 8 or 9 guys on the books for next year they are looking at $80 to $90 million - which is about what they are spending for the entire 2009 payroll.

They just mentioned it on the All-Star Game ... Phillies, Yankees or Red Sox. (I'll throw in the Mets as well)

IMO ... if any of the above teams get him ... That division is over (I know, not really taking a big risk with that statement!)

No one will want Wells...15 million for a guy who hits 15 HRs a season? If he is included in the package, the Blue Jays will have to consider taking MUCH less.
