Seated Quarter Question - 1839
![Walkerguy21D](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/authoricons/walker icon.jpg)
I recently acquired an 1839 seated quarter in F-VF, with the 'closed claw' reverse....is this a better variety, is there more than one closed claw variety (listed Briggs I guess?) for this date, and is there any premium associated with it?
Thanks for any help.

Greg,
According to Larry Briggs, the closed claws variety is the more common
of the two . He rates it an R2+ in F/VF.

There is a variety in 1839 called very long claws that one could call "closed claws" since they cover the gap to the olive branch. This variety is the scarcest of all the 38-39 "claws."

As luck would have it, my '38 is the open claws (common) variety, to go with what I now know is my common closed claws '39 variety. Such is life! But now I know what to look for down the road
