I smell a sweep.

  • Yes Dave, and I thought it was the smell of hot dogs on the grill. What an amazing turnaround this year. Wak is manager of the year so far. 21 one run wins this year and they've been in almost all their losses too. Pitching has been great and Aardsma has shut down everyone. I smell it too.

Aardsma is truly amazing. Not a bad pickup for $400K...

If they sweep the BoSox, they would be 6 and 3 on a Dodger, Yankee, BoSox road trip. Hmmmm.....I suppose I could live with that. image

I picked up Branyan and Aardsma , both in early May on my fantasy team.

They've done berry , berry good for me.

  • Gotta love the so-called 'fans' that come out of the woodwork when times are good, but I'm sure when the Mariners were on a 7 game slide and were well out of it you weren't here. The mariners have benefited from some fortunate scheduling (they've missed kershaw in LA and Beckett in Boston), and some bad bullpen and fielding in Boston. The mariners could easily be down 0-2 in this series (and probably should be), their run differential should have them a few games under .500 instead of 4 over. I'm sure dave and the other 'fans' all thought the mariners would have a winning record on this road trip when they left for LA....

    not.

That's the biggest WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA response I've ever seen. Who cares who they missed in the rotation, they beat the guys they were facing and have no control over anything else. As far as the Sox bullpen, except for Paplebon I'm not very impressed and Francona has not handled them well in the two games I've seen this weekend. Give us our do, this team has stunk it up for years and I've always been here for them. Just like anything else it's easier to talk it up about a winning team. There still in it on the 4th of July, that's something we haven't said about the M's for a long time.

no that smell is another 100 loss season for you all, good thing the Seahawks play in the pathetic NFC West, or they might be looking at a 100 loss season too!

    Sincerely,
    Stick to coffee
  • Stick to coffee-- you should be more appreciative of the M's, since your M's East----Ask the Red Sox how well they've done against the AL west this year by the way. Go Rauuuuuuuuuuuuuuul !

    M's: Best pitching in baseball.

I just hope they pick up a bat. I don't think they catch ANA without adding somebody.

    God I love this team!

they've handled Boston quite easily in their matchups this year. I'd imagine the Sox would not want to face them in the playoffs

Are you braced for a sweep, son? image

  • The M's have the best pitching in baseball? What metric are you using to come up with that statement? It's not ERA, its not batting average against, it sure isn't wins. It's one thing to be excited about your team (especially after being the only team in history to join the 100 loss/100 million salary club last year), but to make up out and out lies like that shows you're not being honest.

Pigs, why are you mentioning Raul Ibanez? He plays for the Phillies now, not the Mariners. And you call yourself a fan? And why not talk about who they've missed in the rotation? You don't think that's factored into the wins and losses? Come on, if you ignore that then you, like Dave, aren't being honest with your analysis.

Looking good, even Big Papi is getting in on the action!
  • Dave, I'd still like an answer as to what metric you were going by when you called the mariners staff the 'best in baseball'. But I suppose we won't be hearing from you and your bandwagoness anytime soon, at least until the mariners win again.

  • Dave99BDave99B Posts: 8,563 ✭✭✭✭✭
Snow's all fired up because the BoSox actually beat a AAA pitcher, and won a game. Nice home series, guys.

Too bad the M's are done with the Sox this year, as they clearly 'own' them.

And not it's on to Baltimore!

  • I guess having the same identical record as the Colorado Rockies is something to really get excited about.
    Enjoy !!!
  • Dave can you please answer the question about what measure you are using when you call the mariners staff the best in baseball? You stated this a couple days ago and I've asked now twice for an explanation, but can you please tell me how you come up with the statement about the Mariners pitching staff being the best in baseball? Please? Your inability to answer this question should show everyone you are completely irrelevant when it comes to talking sports and anything you say has no weight whatsoever.

You'd sound a lot more reasonable if you'd just come out and say 'they're in the top 3, or top 5 in baseball' instead of ignoring the point you made about them being the best in baseball. A real man can admit when he's wrong! It's time to show whether or not you're a reasonable, rational fellow or just another blowhard who knows nothing and never admits fault.

    Which are you, Dave?

Looks like the M's have sent the BoSox into a tailspin.

The cellar dweller A's are abusing them tonight, but good.

I don't know what Dave was talking about, but this much is true about Seattle pitching:

-best team ERA in the AL (3.73) and 3rd in MLB (behind Giants and Dodgers)
-best team in runs allowed per game in the AL (4.17) and 4th in MLB (Giants, Dodgers, Cubs)

those might not make them best in MLB, but an argument could be made for best in the AL
  • His statement was, and I'll quote him here:

    "M's: Best pitching in baseball."

All I was asking for him to explain himself, where he came up with the idea that the mariners had the 'best pitching baseball'. Thank you for clarifying, its a hell of a lot more than he is able to do for himself.

  • << <i>It's apparent Dave doesn't want to have an intelligent discussion, and would rather make ridiculous statements then, when called out on them, ignores it. Nice work, Dave. You seem to be representative of Seattle fans. >>

Time to calm down man. It's only baseball. For not having many posts you sure have come out with both barrels firing. How about some good natured fun with each other instead of wanting answers all the time. You have never really said if you are a Red Sox fan or you hate Mariner's fans. You need to come clean and decide. I don't mind banter about supporting each others team, that's fun, but apparentely you haven't a team you are supporting. Balls in your court now. Please take it easy.
  • Pigs, I've just seen a pattern in Dave's posting in the short time I've been here...from his inane thread bashing the Bucs demise last year to his inability to defend his statement about the M's pitching staff. It's not both barrels blazing, its just comical to see someone like Dave posting all over the place but not having much to say. I don't mind a good baseball discussion but it has to be based in fact and it has to have something to say (something Dave lacks in spades).
  • OK that's fine, that's between you guys. He like I are a little excited about the Mariner's so far this year. They have 42 wins so far this year-----they won their 42nd game last year on August 3rd! We been a sucko city for winners around here for awhile along with losing a NBA team, so when something good comes along it's fun to discuss with everyone here. It just needs to be fun jabs and not so harsh on backing up statistics because they can be viewed in many ways. Like my comment on Branyon, thanks for the info on hitting off lefties but Okijima has pretty much shut them down as was stated by another member. Take care. Doug

Washburn is spinning a beauty tonight. One lonely Bird base knock through seven.

    Can you say "P-I-T-C-H-I-N-G" ?

Pretty impressive after making a 6 hour flight yesterday. Those Angels are even hotter though, they are scary good.

He was unreal. At least the one hit was 100% legit.

Now if we can just get Bedard rolling again.

  • Washburn threw very well tonight, but his defense behind him (especially the outfield) should be getting more credit. The O's smoked some balls, the mariner defenders got to them, the O's outfielders did not, and that was the difference in the game. The Bedard trade continues to haunt this team...an outfield with Adam Jones, Guitierrez, and Ichiro would be unbelievable.

    Bedard's line on 7-12:
IP H R ER BB SO HR NP
    5.2-3-2-2-4-5-1-93
Not too shabby.. guess he got yanked after surrending the HR.

    Edited for inputting the dashes.

How about Ichiro for AL MVP. It seems like everytime you look at the boxscore the guy has two or three hits a game. Saved the game today with his glove too.

And yet another strong outing by Wash. Who would have thought that David
Aardsma would turn out to be a lights out closer? Certaintly not the Cubs, as
they had him at one point.

I can't determine who is better right now. Wash or Felix? If the M's can scratch out two runs, they win!

    PS Go Twins.
