Pooooo-Hoooooles (Pujols)

Has anyone noticed how Pujols has raised his Batting Average to .336 (up from about .324) in the last week or so and now stands 3rd in Batting Avg, 1st in HR's, and 1st in RBI's?

While the Triple Crown in the NL hasn't been achieved since 1937 (Joe Medwick), it is amazing to look at how this guy plays!! MBMiller25 and I had the discussion earlier today about how he could possibly win the Triple Crown this year...

...What do you guys think? Does Pujols have a chance??

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early to start talking about the triple crown, I remember the same time last year all the
    talk about Chipper hitting .400

Pujols certainly has to be included in the list of folks who have the talent to do so, but there is a lot of ball to be played. I hope he keeps it up, but the odds are certainly stacked against him.

Was that grand slam #4 on the year?

  • its too bad he has a relatively weak lineup around him; Ludwick has underperformed thus far; Poohole has very little protection.

I hate to agree with JS, but it's pretty early still. It would be cool to see though...

Has anyone noticed? I know of a couple people, who will remain nameless who not only can tell what Pujols' batting average is every second of the day but also what style of jock strap he uses in night games versus day games among other bits of trivia.

    Chance, sure, likelihood....nope
  • This year talk about Mauer hitting .400

He was batting like .429 and fell to .391

If he play alot 2nd half of the season then maybe for sure batting title.
  • steroids!!
Maris is still the single season HR champ at 61! Since all three to beat him have cheated.
  • As a Dodger FanI don not want to see him at the plate! Triple crown why Not! I wonder what Vegas Thinks!

That statement is just as bad as everybody turning a blind eye before PED testing. Is it possible he has taken PED's? Of course. Is it also possible that he is clean and is just one of the best hitters the game has ever seen? Yes. Let's have some balance here. What is the only thing pointing to PED use? His stats. Name one other thing that points to drug use. I'll be waiting.

This photo was taken last night while he was running to first after his GS HR. Does this look like the arms of a steroid user? My arms are bigger than that!

  • I know I am usualy one of the guilty parties, but why does every Pujols thread end up on the toipc of steroids?

Why does everyone continue to ignore the fact that MLB does not, and as of right now, can not test for HGH. HGH gives you extra strength without adding bulk. Do you really think any of these guys are truly clean or at the very least haven't considered using HGH? Until the players association allows their players to be tested for HGH, I will always assume that most of the current players are using HGH. If you were in the majors and looking to improve your stats, you would use it too especially if it could potentially gain you 10's of millions of extra dollars.

I agree. I try to be objective, though he is my favorite player. I try not to turn a blind eye to what is going on. However, I do LEAN toward the side that he is clean. Is it impossible for a player to just be that good? No, I don't think that is impossible.

There is one thing about HGH use that I have to point out. I have not researched it very much, but it is my understanding that HGH promotes hair growth. Have you seen Albert Pujols's head? He is going bald.

I'm just trying to say that just because a player is great does not mean that I am going to say that he is on PED's. I am also trying to say that just because a player is my favorite player and on my favorite team does not mean that he hasn't used. Again though, I do lean towards the idea that Pujols is clean.

I understand your point. Arod was and still is my favorite active player. Unfortunately his career is forever tainted. In my mind I have also begun to question the careers of some of my other all time favorite players that were active in the 80s and 90s.

As far as your comment about hair growth, HGH does promote hair growth but that does not include the head. The hair follicles on your head are different and more sensitive than the other hair on the rest of your body. If HGH increased hair growth on you head, then lawnmowerman and myself would have an endless supply. Steroids speed up male pattern baldness, which is my biggest concern with Pujols.

It's not the national pastime? What is? The NFL?

Records that are broken are not cherished?

Cmon you can do better then that.

I'll agree their is money also in college sports, too bad the players don't get it.

I'm wondering why you asked the question if you knew all the answers.

I simply gave my opinion why baseball players get most of the grief when it comes to PEDS.

Another thing is just about every player is known to the public, how many college football players

does the average sports fan know? Same with football.

Does Pujols have a shot? Sure. But in looking up his career stats, I was shocked to see he'd never led the league in HRs or RBI even once in his career. He's won a batting title before, and that's usually the hardest part of the Triple Crown, so I'd say he's got a shot. But he'll have to lead two categories he's never led before to do it...

Obviously he has a shot. However, it is going to be really tought to win all three, i see him winning 2 at most. I would love to see it though.
  • TrevmoTrevmo Posts: 201 ✭✭
I would love to see it happen but i think it is still a little early to tell. He is a good hitter and he is improving pretty quickly but he still has a little work left before season ends.

Bill James has a cool article in SI this week trying to find someone who compares...he doesnt really find anyone who started as Pujols has.....apparently 11 season of Pujols worst season (2002), would get him in the hall according to James.....

Many HOF's never had an OBA as high as Pujols' lowest....thats a cool stat

as much as it pains me to say it. Pujols is the one player that could do it.
