My latest arrival 1881s, have a looksee and give me some opinions please SLAB POSTED

I went for the plasticimageand was pleasantly surprised with the coin. The assigned grade, imo, is spot on.

The lines in front of the nose are on the slab, upon further inspection the lines in front of the nose is a damn hair, no kidding, for real,
a nose hair..image

Your opinion on grade please, no cheating.

I'll need to check in VAMworld, the mint mark may have something going on. The lines by the D are little fuzzies on the slab.

  • 64PL. No DMPL due to the lighter cam on the obv. A nice coin, with the right amount of color. image I like it.

    MS64 but no PL.

  • 65PL. Tempted to call it 65CA. They throw me with the PL. When I think of PL, I think of mirror like fields.
  • Just saw the small tabs on the reverse. An ACG holder.

How I love the SanFran strikes, and yours is no exception. The rev looks to be a solid PL, but I feel that the obv just misses; all in all, I give her a MS64+.

Sorry. Hmmm... Not the rattler or ACG. Not ICG or SEGS. Obviously Not DGS.

My next and final guess is the old PCI "Photo Certified Coin Institute" oversized slab from the late '80's.

PCGS is hard on the 1881-s
Just too many good examples I guess..............
    MS63-64 no PL

All morgans have a VAM number but I don't believe any of the 1881-S are in top 100 or hot 50.

    64, no PL. If ti weren't 81 S, it might go 65.

Looks like a good price to me. The INGS slab (same slab as the early PCI "Photo Certified Institute") has some collector appeal. Looks like most go higher end 64 to low 65 with obverse PL in doubt because of frost breaks.

1881S always come nice . Nice score.
But there are millions or thousands of 81S 's out there
it seems. Send it in to PCGS or NGC and let us know how you do.
