The 58DDO is now required. PCGS has only graded three of them.

They should. This is one of the most important coins in the series IMHO. Also, I thought there was only two examples known?
When and where did the 3rd come from? What grade? Pics?

Is it possible one of the two known examples was resubmitted? I'd be happy to see the second example, nevermind a third. I've only ever seen Stewart's example, unless the one John Wexler photographed 25 years ago wasn't the same coin (I know it came from the same person).

upcoming "changes", and I believe that is what BJ indicated. That ought to bring the price down. Shag

Are they still leaving Die 5 (FS-018.3)?

Why no '41? Die #2 is a beautiful variety. So is #1 for that matter, but die 2 is stronger.
I have mixed emotions about adding the '58 and subtracting the '41. On one hand, that 58 DDO is huge, and deserves to be there for its significance in the series and in numismatics in general. On the other, there are only to my knowledge 2 of them. This means the possibility of anyone getting a complete set with varieties virtually impossible. (Except for maybe Stewart, and I dont know if he's into all of the minor DDO,DDR, RPM, and OMM's.
For me, I have resigned myself to collecting what I like in the best grade that I can afford and not focusing to hard on the what the registry says I need. Without hitting the lottery or stepping on one in a parking lot, its quite obvious I will never own the 58 DDO. At $200,000 I think I'll put my two kids through college instead.
But, hey for you high rollers out there: Same Lukes is selling one.

Once again, how these decisions to add some coins and delete others is done is beyond me. I understand it’s their program, but they have ticked off a lot of collectors in the past and present with this lack of soliciting opinions, transparency or what ever you want to call it. I have said for a long time a WELL KNOWN volunteer committee needs to address these issues as I do not feel from a collector or public relations aspect PCGS is getting it right. Another option would be that if you are the top collector of a series, you automatically are on the cent, dime, or whatever coin committee series.
Let’s look at the past, remember the absolute debacle of Satins being added and to what sets. It took only 2 YEARS to figure that one out. Most recently, the 64 SMS gets in on SOME variety sets, but NOT ALL. What’s up with that? I am telling you it’s a crying shame the way which coin are added or deleted. That is why I laugh out loud when I hear fellow collectors want or even demand 8-9 2009 varieties to be added. We have a 28 Large S and no 41 ? WHY???? Just because?

<< <i>My opinion is it is WRONG to add a coin to the MAJOR varieties (as opposed to the COMPLETE SET) version for any coin in which less than 10 coins have been certified by PCGS.
Steve >>
Steve, I totally agree with that statement. The word MAJOR would imply that it is a must have coin for the Lincoln enthusiast. If the pops are
as stated in this thread, then this is an unachievable goal for that set. Do we have a situation here, where one or more owners of the 58 ddo
have solicited for this change and were successful? Let's see, who would be the most likely owners of such a coin. The two guys at the top
perhaps? Of course, the Complete Variety Set is another matter. There are currently two or more pop 1 coins in that list, and as discussed in
an earlier thread, 5 that have yet to have one attributed in any grade or color.
<< <i>Taking out the 41 DDO's is insane!
Are they still leaving Die 5 (FS-018.3)? >>
To be clear Roger, All three 41 DDO's will still be in the Complete Variety Sets. The Die 1 and 2 have been removed
from the Major Varieties Sets and replaced with the 58 DDO. Are we talking about only 3 known specimens, or PCGS
attributed specimens? Any graded at the other TPG's? Shag
Really?
With 2, or 3 known, and it being a 'big' DDO, and on the final Wheat reverse Lincoln? Even in this economy Id think it would bring more than $100k... I could be wrong though.
