Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Baseball cards can sometimes predict the future! Three examples:

1989 Topps Mark McGwire: This card is #70, and '89 is the year Mark hit 70 home runs in reverse ('98).

1998 Donruss Mark McGwire: Correctly predicted Mark would break Maris' single season home run record that year. How? The card happens to be #62!

1992 Donruss Kent Mercker/Alejandro Pena #616: This card was issued to commemorate the combined no-hitter these two Braves pitchers threw. The date it occured? September 11, 1991. And all of you know what happened exactly ten years later.

This isn't a card, but this is interesting to point out too. In the movie Back to the Future Part II Marty sees a billboard that reads "CUBS WIN WORLD SERIES...OVER MIAMI". Well in 2003, the Cubs came within seven outs of winning the NLCS over Miami!! Not exactly the World Series but can you imagine how freaky that would've been had the Cubs pulled it off?

This card, from 2009 Upper Deck Baseball, is one of the best examples of how cards can predict the future:

I don't understand example #3. What does a combined no-hitter have to do with predicting a terrorist attack 10 years later?
Maybe I just don't see something everyone else must see.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Thanks for sharing, really.

"I'm not going hunting with anyone that plays the same position as I do."

-Derrick Coleman, on why he repeatedly turns down invitations to go hunting with teammate Jayson Williams.

Now that, my friends, is predicting the future.

Don't forget the other coincidences with Lincoln and JFK:

** Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
** Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.
** Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
** Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
** Lincoln was elected in 1860.
** Kennedy was elected in 1960.
** Lincoln's assassin pulled the trigger in a theater and hid in a library.
** Kennedy's assassin pulled the trigger in a library and hid in a theater.
** Lincoln and Kennedy were both replaced by their VP's . . . both named Johnson (Andrew - born 1808 and Lyndon - born 1908).
** Both Lincoln and Kennedy championed the cause of African-Americans (abolition of slavery and civil rights).
** Both assassins (Boothe and Oswald) were shot and killed before standing trial.

    Interesting parallels . . .
