    Safes aren't fire proof.
    They're fire resistant.
What they say for instance, is that in a 1500 degree fire, they'll keep the inside under 350 degrees up to 1/2 hour or so.
I'd rather use a fire file if I were worried about losing something to fire.
Use a safe to slow down a thief.

I think I'd take them OFF the safe and put them IN the safe image
  • I truly hope you're not as big of a moron as you "pretend" to be
  • I think your safe is good against melting if it is a self sealing one when hit by high temp. The weight has nothing to do with the fire rating.

    Melting points:

    silver: 1763.2 F
    gold: 1945.4 F
    House fire temperature:
    Wood: 800-1000 F
    Plastics: 1300 F
Oil/paint/gasoline: varies but hotter than plastic.

What works well for some is 6" diameter PVC plumbing pipe, filled w/PM and capped at both ends. Bury in the ground at 3-4 feet or below freezing zone. Remember where it is !
