OT: Caught my first foul ball today

Caught one off of Grady Sizemore. There is a team meet and greet on Sunday and I am going to try and get it signed. Just had to tell someone as my wife is out right now.

Long fly to right field that bounced off a group of people. Not pretty, but it still counts.

    cool.

my boy and I will be there tomorrow night. We'll be front row in right field just to the left of the visitor's bullpen.

Yep that was it in the 7th. I gave it to my mother in law who has been going to games forever and never caught one. She was so excited. Have fun at the game tomorrow.

Off the crowd or off the wall it's all good, catching a ball that was hit during a game.

    Congrats...imageDonato

  • The only reason that I might be the only Steve "Rainbow" Trout fan. He tossed me my first ball from the bullpen at 3 rivers stadium. I just wish more people graded his cards at PSA, as there are usually none for sale. Im still looking for PSA 10 RCs.

Always cool getting a ball, foul or homer. My only ball was a game winning home run by Von Hayes when he was a Phillie. I would like to say I caught it barehanded on the fly, but it landed one row in front of me and two seats over........I was the only one in the section at the time so I casually walked over and picked it up.

The only fouil ball I ever caught during an actual game was all the way back on 04/21/83 off the bat of Gary Roenicke (Jon Matlack pitching) at old Memorial Stadium....That winter I mailed the ball to him with return postage and instructions on how I would like it signed and to this day, it's one of my favorite pieces of memorabilia...Show us a scan if you get it signed!!! Good Luck..

  • Does it count if you get it handed to you by the ball girl along first base line?

Good for you! I have been to hundreds of games and never got one. Landed within 2-3 seats several times but never a catcheable ball. Actually, had a home run ball graze the top of my finger at Pac Bell a couple years ago. About broke my finger and it barely grazed it. Glad I didn't really try to catch it as I would have had several broken bones probably!
  • very nice! it's awesome to come home from a game with a ball and to have it hit by somebody like Sizemore is even better. I've been to maybe 15 Mariners games since the '92 season and 2 years ago to the day (6-27-07) I caught one that had bounced through the hands of about 6 groups of people before it finally hit my chest and I smothered it. It was an ugly catch off a terrible hitter (julio lugo) and a terrible pitcher (ryan feirabend) but I will always cherish the moment. It was a great game too. DiceK was pitching for Boston and the game went to extra innings with Jose Lopez hitting a game winning double off the wall against ex-Mariner Joel Pineiro. The win completed a 3-game sweep over the RedSox. If it wasn't for Manny playing left field the game would have easily gone on to the 12th.

    Awesome Beck6!

I got my first when I was 11 years old....Catfish Hunter, who was my fave player at the time was warming up the left fielder in the bullpen then I noticed he looked like he was going to throw it in the stands, and he did. I took off from my seat and out ran 4-5 other kids. I remember when I picked it up with my Wes Parker model first basemen's glove I raised it over my head in triumph and was probably jumping up and down. (this was back in the day when the A's only drew 5000 people a night even though they were the best team in baseball)

Later got the ball signed by Catfish, Reggie, Fingers, and some other A's.

38 years later I still have the ball and it's one item I will never sell.

I had a chance to catch a foul ball a few years later, a towering pop behind the plate hit by Lee May, if I remember. It literally came right down to me, I thought about catching it, but not having a glove on a the time as the ball got closer I came to my senses and let it hit the seat in front of me (this was when the A's really sucked and they only drew 2000 a night), then picked it up.

My boy got a ball from a cop. No one hit one even near us, not even in BP!!!

So we bought this instead from the Indians Wives thing.

Very cool jersey. I am off to the zoo with the ball to attempt to get it signed at the players after hours.

Got three hockey pucks this season in Lowell. You know, those flat, black baseballs. image
One hit the seat next to me, bounced against my ribs very lightly and I had it in hand before it stopped moving. Another hit the stupid protective net that they have and fell very lightly into my out streched hand. The third came from the Zamboni driver handed to my son. He then took us outback to see the Zamboni. Hence...

I've never caught a ball off of a bat, however I did catch a throw. In 1983, Reggie Jackson was in the outfield for the Angels and threw a ball home and I caught it in my seat which was on the first base line. Later, I got the ball signed by Rod Carew and Fred Lynn.
