Turning $22 into.....?

For my 99th post I have decided to try turn a recent flip into at least $1000 in value. I have a good leg up as I ended making about 10 times what I paid for the item. So here goes.

Card I purchased: BIN 86 Topps

image

Card sold for a profit after fees/shipping of $224

What I am planning to do is use these funds to acquire graded cards for both my personal collection and to sell, I will also purchase raw for grading and selling. At the end of the day I am hoping to raise the value of my collection by $1000 from just this original $22 purchase. I will mostly be dealing in Gretzky's, but I also collect Reggie Jackson and Carl Yastrzemksi Topps Basic cards. As this progresses I will post scans of the items and update the value. Not sure if this will be an interesting thread, but haven't seen anything like this on here (little different than the trade my way to .....threads), and things seem to be a little slow lately. At the very least this will help me keep disciplined with my collecting goals and keep track of how much I actually spend and make during a specific time period.

As cards begin arriving I will update progress here.

7/1 Well, it didn't take long - I burnt through all of the cash from the initial flip. I will need to send some items in for grading to keep progressing this, but I feel I did pretty well. Will be sending in on the July special and hopefully selling a few, and keeping a lot.

Start $224
Purchase 1 - 1970 Topps Reggie Jackson PSA 7 - looking for VCP on this, so I could apply a value as I will be keeping this one. Spent $27.60 ($30 BIN w/free shipping + Bing cashback)

image

Cash = $196
Cards = ~$30
Total = $226

Picked this up hoping to add to my registry, but will most likely resell raw. Panel is nice, but upper left corner a bit soft. Would probably grade a 7.

Purchase 2 - 1983-84 Vachon Panel w/Wayne Gretzky - Spent $12.49 dlvd, value @ cost until sold $12.49

image

Cash = $184
Cards = ~$42
Total = $226

Purchase 3 - Bought this beautiful pair of autographed stickers, purchase price $156 delivered. Will have these graded and authenticated, I plan on keeping #209 as it is the nicer condition of the two and reselling the #252. I am hoping the 209 grades a 9 which I think it has a good shot, and the 252 grades an 8 which may be a stretch. The auto on the 252 is nicer, but compared to the 2 stickers I currently own I think if the grades hold up this will be my best combination. I have also pasted in my current stickers for comparison. I will factor in the grading fees after sales have taken place.

Grades are in a little disappointed with the #209, but think I will still be keeping as the registration is far superior to my current 9, and will sell the 252 as originally planned as my current item is a much nicer example.

Line # Item # Cert # Grade Description Type Country
1 1 15766874 NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1981 O-PEE-CHEE STICKER 209 WAYNE GRETZKY PSA/DNA CERTIFIED
2 1 15766875 NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1981 O-PEE-CHEE STICKER 252 WAYNE GRETZKY PSA/DNA CERTIFIED

Cash = $28
Cards = $196
Total = $226

Purchase 4 - Combination of 3 separate Gretzky sticker lots, lot 1 contained 8 stickers from 83 opc $20, lot 2 has 3 stickers including 2 difficult 87 panini stickers $7.60, and lot 3 had 7 items totaling $15.63 grand total for this is $43.23. The better items from the purchase have been scanned, and many of these will be sent out for grading.

Cash = -$15
Cards = $239
Total = $224

Thanks,
Chris

    I think a scan of the card is warranted in this case.

    Im gonna hold off on listing mine. The one that went for over $900 was after she won some tournament, I can't remember which one.

    Not sure how much the personalized one will go for.

    Are you going to throw them on the bay? Id be interested in following the auctions.
