Privy marks....

Why are they used? ...and....are they worth the premiums? I am reading info that states they have a smaller mintage.

    They are used to create a collectible that they can sell for a premium.

  • Kdog. I agree with Perry Hall as to why they are created. The term "privy" refers to a British group of very high level politicians known as the "Privy Council" The heritage has been kept as a symbol only here in Canada and that is why some coins from here are marked with "privy" marks.
    It goes back many centuries and is, in my humble opinion, now used as a gimmick.
