I'm proud of my daughter, but I root for the Red Sox. If the Sox win the WS ten years in a row I will be happy, ecstatic even, but not proud. Pride is different.

Well said!
My son was voted pitcher of the year on JV last year. This year on his first varsity team (summer league) so far he's 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA with 18 innings pitched. Of him I am very proud.
I don't think "proud" is a word I would use to describe my feelings for my teams. Happy if they win, modestly sad if they lose, but in general it pales in comparison to my feelings for wife, kids and job.

I was going to mention LSU's victory over Texas last night but I think that post has changed my mind.
My son is the starting pitcher for the opening game of the Little League Regional tournament Thursday. Tops 2 teams go to state tournament in 3 weeks.
I wouldn't say I'm proud of rooting for any team. I choose to root for the Dodgers, Lakers, and the UCLA Bruins as they are in my local area and that's who I grew up rooting for. It's only sports entertainment and not an important part of my life. When my son or daughther are old enough and play on a team then I will be proud to root for them.

That said, I am not proud of the S.F. Giants. I root for them. I cheer for them. I hope they win. But I am not proud of them.
<< <i>Why, or why not? >>
For me, sports is just entertainment. I watch sports to be entertained. Same way I go to the movies to be entertained.

Very proud.
<< <i>I'm almost always proud of my team. They are a great group of seven nine year olds and four ten year olds. They try hard every game. >>

The most fun I ever had was coaching that age group!
