So when will do you think ebay will be an auction house again?

Just wondering is all. I remember the good old days. It seems to show in there stock value. With buy it now as an option, I think it only hurts ebay as a whole. I love doing a key an advance search on "PSA" and then putting a min # of bids per auction of 1. Of a total of 48,000 auctions only 7,500 have bids. 15% will sell, Ive tried doing other areas but they seem worse. Will ebays value grow with this kind of structure?

Since most regular eBay buyers use a sniping service now or manually snipe, no wonder there are very few bids. I only have 21 regular auctions running right now and 15 have at least 2 watchers but only 4 have bids.

    Look at closed auctions.

    Good for you.
  • Buy it Now has done nothing but help our great hobby. I'm typically not a fan of spam auctions, but the juggernaut Burbank Sportscards has helped our hobby enormously. A solid balance of auction/BIN is what eBay is and will stay.

Our just make it a card store? Not an auction house?! What ebay was, so is it a store or an auction house?

Since I and many other sellers mostly sell commodity items,
it makes no sense for us to list them in auction format.

Why would I want to start an auction at 99-cents when
I know that there will be one/no bidders and I will end up
paying EBAY for the privilege of giving stuff away?

I can list that same item for $19.95+ as a BIN, and eventually
somebody will come along and buy it.

If auctions served my purposes, I would use them.

I have said this before.. sniper programs killed the auction for me as a seller..
I will list it in my store for what I want.. sometimes with best offers, sometimes not.

as a buyer I love the snipe because I pick things up for pennies on the dollar.

if ebay found a way to block those.. I would run more auctions.

I like it as a buyer too (must of the time) but eBay could stop it if they wanted too! I'm not sure what their reasoning might be for not doing something about it however. When I first started using eBay I always wondered why there wasn't some kind of a minimum time without a bid before an auction was allowed to end. You know, like a "real" auction! Seems like it would increase the overall final values of closed auctions which in turn would be better for sellers and eBay.

Hey, eBay could add this as another "option" for how an auction can end, just like a BINs or BOs and charge an extra fee for it! I didn't just say that did I image

In California - and other states - there would be some complex legal issues to deal with
if EBAY offered the extended run.

Long ago, they made a very deliberate decision not to deal with those issues.

EBAY is a "media company" that sells ads. They are not a licensed "auction house."

Yes, sniper programs , have hurt ebay auctions , and will continue to do so, till ebay blocks them, I have always thought sniping is for the low ballers at the flea market that offers you 10 cents on the dollar for your Jordan rookie. This is why you see more BIN and auctions with a Higher starting bid, if I have an item that is not in great demand but still a rare item there is no way I start it out at 99 cents maybe 99 dollars but not 99 cents. On a more personal note just wanted to thank the low ballers and the snipers and the economy for this mess.
    Thanks alot.

Example had an item about a month or so ago very seldom seen, it took me 7 weeks of relisting to finally sell it for 140 dollars which I thought was still a good price ( since one a month earlier one sold for 399) , but if I had not set a reserve or a high starting bid, it would have sold the first week for a whooping 41.00 dollars. Sellers need to be more patient and just say No to giving their product away to the flea market mentality. yes if it is a popular item and in great demand start it out at 99 cents otherwise Just say NO.

Don't worry about ebay's value, as a company their value is going up. Look at all their buisness: Ebay, Skype, Rent.com, PayPal, StubHub, Half.com and many other companies.

As for when Ebay will be an auction house again? I must ask, do you ever check out Ebay? They always have auctions running.

Ebay is doing the correct thing, cornering the market.
