How many different kinds of 100 oz Engelhard bars are there?

And are they all valued the same or is one kind worth more than another?

Thanks.

Good question. Are the old poured bars priced the same as the newer bars?

  • There are 2 basic types of Engelhard 100's.

[Since I am no good at pixs...I will use ebay pixs... NOT my bars...NO financial interest].

The original cast bar. There are many different locations for the markings...but they are all about the same.

The surface will vary from very smooth to very crude.

    Older Cast bar.

Then came the newer Machined bar. Some folks call them Extruded, Rolled or Milled.
They originaly came 10 to a wood box with a piece of tissue paper between them.

First style of the machined bar.

Them came the newest of the Machined bar. Notice the "ENGELHARD" name.

    Second style

Later, they still came 10 to a box but with a hard/thin plastic sleeve. After 30 yrs. or so
the plastic sleeves are often times cracked or shreaded due to the plastic getting
    brittle with age....like me. image

Second style with plastic " flag " cover.

As far as value...... They are all the same. Both are offered on any given day.

Only personal preferance seems to matter. The Machined bars stack much smoother.

They all look good in the stack!!

From your eBay links, the old cast bars appear to carry a premium. True?

    Thanks for the info image

I figured they'd all be about the same value but might carry a slight difference if one style was more popular than another.

I have only machined 100's. I just like them better. Often times a dealer

would have both types at the same price.... but I would only purchase the

machined bars. I do know other folks that ONLY buy the cast bars.

They like them for the "old " look. Same with the 5's and 10's.

Buying or selling.... the price is just about the same with both styles.
