This one bothers me a bit...

It's a silver Hindenburg medal, dated 1915 and I paid a good bit more than 10 bucks
for it.

I had to shoot it though the flip since the seller's policy is that it's non returnable
if it's removed, so the focus is not so good.

The seller has a good reputation and I'm not demeaning it here, but I'm bothered by
the toning; looks almost too good to be natural.

I've asked the seller and pretty sure I'll get a straight answer.

What do you think?

I'm no expert by any means, but I see nothing suspicious.

What is the problem with it? It looks NT to me. It does look like there is some hairlining in the fields, but I have seen that same kind of toning on Canadian dollars from the '70's.

I would worry more if the colors were brighter and more dayglo.

Edited to fix my typo. I intended to put NT instead of AT.

I don't like the inconsistent field on the right of the obverse, but as always, it's hard to really tell without the piece in hand.

OOPS!! I actually meant to say that it was naturally toned. What would be the reason for ATing this coin?

Well I decided to keep the medal. I have to now because I've taken it out of the
holder to try and get some better shots.

At this point, it would be REUYall nice if nobody said:

    "Oh Yeah!

    That's artificial toning all right!"image

In reality, almost ALL toning, if not all, is AT... something made it change a color from it's normal state. If you want to be "technical"...

Appreciate your opinions folks. I've decided to keep it anyway.

The old question of what constitutes "Artificial" toning keeps coming up.

For my part I don't split hairs about envelopes left on heaters, coins placed on oak desks
    and such.

I'm talking about swilling the coin around in some of the chemical toning agents that
seem to abound on the internet these days. A sure body bag with PCGS and they
    should be.

    Thanks again....
