Counterstamped Lincoln Cents: Kennedy, Bicentennial, Love and Batman
I recently purchased a lot of over 1700 Kennedy counterstamped Lincoln cents from a forum member. I don't normally collect this type of material; however, I remember wanting one of these coins when I was a kid almost 40 years ago. My mom wouldn't buy one for me. Our family pulled coins out of circulation. We didn't pay above face value for coins. Well, there's nothing like overkill to erase the disappointment of a childhood memory. Now I have more Lincoln Kennedy cents than I could ever imagine.
Mixed in with all the Kennedy counterstamps were several Bicentennial counterstamps. These are a Liberty Bell and map of the U.S. stamped in each field on 1975 and 1976 coins. There were also three 1973 coins with a counterstamped heart with "I Love You" inside. Finally, there was one 1963 coin with a Batman symbol. The symbol is circumscribed by a circle and looks like the beacon from the old TV show. It's not the modern type currently for sale on eBay.
If somebody studies or collects these types of counterstamps, I'd be happy to post some photos. The Kennedy counterstamps range from 1967 to 1993, with the overwhelming majority being 1977D and a significant number of 1982. Several different Kennedy dies were used.

many of these were Littleton products over the years (Lincoln smoking a pipe, "Grant Takes Richmond," tributes to the space program, as well as other iconic pop culture references)
in the mid 70's a company produced a framed set of 50 Lincoln cents that contained a stamp of each state's outline.......many of these sets were broken up and now you will sometimes find an example in circulation (i think my daughter's Whitman has Pennsylvania)
in my opinion, these Lincolns will never command much money but they are fun to collect and we enjoy them!
