My son and I just met Fergie Jenkins...

My four and half year old son and I spent the afternoon at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductee ceremonies. They were inducting Ernie Witt and Larry Walker. Anyway, after hearing some of the speeches and looking at the exhibits we waiting in a very long line to get autographs of Witt and Walker. Well...for those who have young kids...the wait was a little too long (over an hour and a half). So we decided to skip the autos.

My son was more disappointed than me about not getting an autograph on his baseball. But, as we were leaving, we saw that Mr. Jenkins had a booth set up for his foundation and no line at all. We both ended up getting great autographs, a picture and a bit of a chat. Great guy and he was wonderful with my son.

Here are some pictures. It might not be Cooperstown but it was still pretty cool.

Sounds like it was an awesome time. Reminds me when i met Brooks Robinson when I was younger. He was doing a free signing at a card shop and there was no one left, so I kept buying stuff to get signed. I was about 14 or 15 at the time, and he inscribed a photo "To Mark, a future Hall of Famer". He was n awesome person. Someone offered to take a pic of me and Brooks, and sent them to me in the mail. Then I sent them to Brooks and he signed them "Mark, your looking great!!". I love hearing stories of peoples encounters with Hall of Famers who are kind and generous!

    PM SENT!

  • Whenever you can spend time with a HOF'er and your son in the same day, what more could you ask for?

I was able to go to the Canadian Hall of Fame in 2001 and I loved the place, the town and everything about it --- it is 1% of Cooperstown but they pack the baseball in there and are super proud of it.
My son was only 2 at the time but we got this pic signed and he always shows it to his friends.

Thanks for all the kind words. It was an amazing day. To spend the day with my son and baseball was perfect.

Oh and the shirt wasn't mine though I did have one very close to it growing up.
