Can this signed card go in a red flip or does it have to be the blue flip?

This is in regards to a 2005 Christian Family Day card signed by Albert Pujols (see link below). I have a few questions.

(1) Am I right that only official cards can go in a red flip?

(2) Does this card qualify as an official card if that is the case? I would prefer the red flip, however, my membership has ran out. It is my understanding that I can get a PSA/DNA authentication without being a memeber.

(3) Would I then have no choice but to go with the blue flip unless I joined back up?

Any legit auto'd card can go in a red flip if you've got a membership, it doesn't have to be a certified auto release.

So, yes, you'd have to re-up to get the red flip.

Thanks, though let me clarify one question. I was not talking about a certified auto release. I was talking about an officially licensed card. For instance, I don't think that a late 1980's Broder card can go into a red flip because it is not licensed. Would this cards qualify as a licensed card?

Edited to say: Awesome Frank Thomas signatures. Now, you just need a "No Name" card signed! image

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding, and thanks! I would love to have a NNOF signed...but I need an unsigned one to make that happen!

Anyway, that's a great question...I can't say I've even seen an unlicensed card w/ auto in a red flip, so your thinking may be spot on. They certainly wouldn't assign a grade, but I don't think it would be out of the question to see a signed "Broder" style card in red.

I only say that because you can get cuts in the red flip, I would think that a cut would fall under the same stipulations.

Really, you can get cut signatures in a red flip? Are you talking about a cut signature licensed card or an actual cut signature (like a piece of paper)? Could it be that the red flip you saw was from before they came out with the blue flips?

I mean like a 3x5 or a piece of paper...it's rare, but I've seen them.

I think that may have been before they came out with the blue flip. I think the blue flip only came out about 4 or 5 years ago. In other words, I don't think you can get the red flip now unless it is a licensed card. That is just my thinking on it. I wonder if someone could clarify?

This might be a more relevant example...just a signed 3x5 picture...

    Gotcha.

If you don't get a firsthand account from anyone here, PSA customer service is fast and friendly...quick call and they'll clarify I'm sure.
