On this day in History: Jun 18 1815

Napoleon is defeated in the Battle of Waterloo, partly because of an inability to properly survey the battlefield (due to a case of inflamed hemorrhoids).

I've been to the battlefield, located just outside of Brussels, during the yearly(?) weekend re-creation of the battle. Very interesting to see and hear Wellington commanding his troops in French!

I do not believe that I have any Napoleonic coins, but I do have this one medal, with a reverse by one of my favorite medalists, Herbemont.

Not Waterloo, but here is an original medal from Napoleon's 1807 conquest of Silesia.

Here's another original (in Silver) of Napoleon's 1806 defeat of my beloved Prussians at Jena image
