Puzzler: Identify THIS one!

Greg ("savoyspecial"), our resident counterstamp guy, just PM-ed this one to me.
To quote him:
<< <i>check out this heavily counterstamped piece.......the dealer who had it in his inventory presumed it was a U.S. large cent coming in at 27mm.......of course the host coin is not of U.S. origin.......can you make it out? >>
I could, indeed, though it was a nice challenge, and took me a minute or two. Let's see how fast somebody else gets it.
Guess the identity of the host coin, not the counterstamps (I don't know the answer to that one- maybe Greg will share it if he knows).
Just for fun, the first to guess it wins a 50-year-old Red BU coin from the same country.

Apparently I have been awarded the DPOTD twice.
You're a wizard, as I have said before.
You just won a Red BU (MS63 RD) 1959 Mexico 10-centavo piece, if you want it. (A cheap but attractive coin).
I wonder how many folks looked at the thread but were stumped and moved on without replying.
It had me going for a few minutes. I can see why the Liteside dealer would have attributed it as a US large cent, with the leaves and berries looking like that.
Now, about those leaf counterstamps, those are pretty fascinating. What's the story on those, Greg, or do you know?
the smaller cinquefoils appear fairly often on 19th cent. pieces

Whatever those leaves denote, they MEANT it!
