So they started putting high dollar cards in the vintage Christmas racks......

A lot of these on ebay right now. Looks like they are getting NM+ money for VGEX- EX star cards and some commons.

    i need a barf bag.

This is the REAL DEAL, and how some unscrupulous sellers are selling newly made up bogus xmas packs containing NOTHING good inside since they are "home made", the cards are like vg condition at best.....These packs are known to be put together by a 3rd party back then, so you never know if you're going to pull all gem mint 10's or all psa 5 quallity...

I have had customers pull psa 8's and psa 5's out of the packs I've sold. You never know what you will find!!

Here are the clues so no one gets robbed from the frauds on ebay:

    1. The Seasons Greetings on the back of the packs are too small and not in the correct position which should be in the middle of the 3rd card down on the back of the pack..

    2. The candycane borders.., the red and white point UP, it should point down and NOT be so "clean looking"/brand new/perfect!!

    3. The snowflakes are out of position

    4. There should be a black stripe on the staples which are old, not brand new staples purchased yesterday from office depot!

    5. The candycane borders are too close together, I.E: if a pack has cards ranging from 1952 - 1956, the edges of the candycane border should be at the very edges of the pack. These "Counterfeiters" have their packs where there is still "clear plastic" on the edges after the canycane border. Please be aware of these crooks when bidding on ebay!! : )

    6. Last but CERTAINLY not least, these packs were ONLY made from 1952 - 1962! Anything above 1962 is COUNTERFEIT!

    History:

Please note that Xmas rack packs were manufactured by a third party, not by Topps. From 1952 to 1962 Topps sold all of their excess cards to a third party after each year's World Series, who then HAND repackaged them for sale as Christmas presents/stocking stuffers. The commercial success of these Xmas racks was eventually noticed by Topps, who began manufacturing their own rack packs in 1960!!! This company took all cards including HOF/Stars/Semi Stars/and commons, and randomly made Christmas Rack Packs for every Year starting 1952 - 1962.

    Provinance:

My Uncle purchased at auction 3 HUGE boxes of these xmas rack packs in the early 80's at auction in Upstate NY. He purchased these 3 boxes with a friend over 25 years ago!!! They have : LITERALLY been sitting in the attic all this time until about a year or so ago and I started helping him sell some off so he would get a return on his investment. He knows nothing about computers which works well for me since I get a percentage!! LOL Please check my feedback, I have not sold any of these packs in a while waiting for the economy to jump back up, so I am offering this pack at a SUPER low starting price!!!

Please check my feedback from other buyers who were/are TOTALLY satisfied with these REAL packs and my service : )

All Sales are final so PLEASE ask questions before bidding!!

Above is EXACTLY what you can see showing in the pack.

All packs are known to have 12 cards total.

    3 sections of 4 cards.

You can see the top 3 and bottom 3.

There are 6 cards hidden in the middle.

Its the arrogance of these idiots who come up with these lies to try and sell these. Llike the one who's relative bought all these and managed to dig up a history of all these cards which is complete BS
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Tom I remember seeing a Koufax rookie in one of these packs a few years ago.

Putting stars in them (on top) is nothing new.

and what are the chances of that 62 Koufax only showing on the back, being OC or MC? - I'd have to say virtually 100%.

yeah, I had seen a few star packs before, but never as many at one time and by the same seller before.

I don't think this guy made these up recently.

I could be wrong, but IMO he bought these probably a few years back

and is now just selling them?

I have no proof either way, he could have made them up last night for all I know.

    Good for you.

is there no chance whatsoever that any of these might have been put together 40-45 years ago and are legit? I might actually buy these for VGEX prices on the star cards but some people are paying prices like the star cards might be NM or better and there might be other star cards.

I don't think so. I remember when Mark Murphy was touting them. I think (I could be wrong)
but they were made up in the late 60's. Some say it was more like the late 70's into the early 80's.

Whatever the case may be they were not made up by Topps during the Xmas season of whatever year they are.
    That much is certain.

    Grote would know more.

<<< There should be a black stripe on the staples which are old, not brand new staples purchased yesterday from office depot! >>>

This just simply isn't true if he means the staples discoloring - if the so-called "genuine" packs were stored correctly, there shouldn't be any discoloration on the staples - besides if he means the original staples had a black color, it's easy to just create a "black stripe" on a new set of staples and put those in the stapler and use that - I could shoot holes in other comments he made, but my barf bag is already filled up. LOL

At this point, there are so many "Christmas" racks that have been put together over the last couple of years that I wouldn't touch any of them unless I was bidding VG-EX prices at best for the cards that are actually visible. It is true that there are some holiday racks that were packaged up years ago by a third party company, but they were are universally shunned by unopened collectors for the most part since they are not authentic unopened product by Topps. Once the scammers saw what prices these racks were commanding, the thieves got in on it, too, and now you see all kinds of variations of these, some worse than others, but all containing little more than what cards you see in plain view, in terms of value. The packaging is what drives these prices to ridiculous levels, as there are many people who put more legitimacy in these racks than what they deserve, due in part to Mark Murphy's endorsement of them some years back. That turned out to be one of the more embarrassing episides for the guy who wrote the guide to unopened packs, to say the least..
