as many times as you want, but only once per day, you can edit your original post as often as you wish though

not sure what a Liberian is though....

  • The Republic of Liberia is located on the west coast of Africa bordering sierra leonne. It began as an experiment of the United States with backing from then President U.S. Grant.
Emancipated slaves were given the opportunity to start their own country in Africa with quasai backing of the United States (the U.S. Government backing was controversial) and almost all support for the plan was given by individuals whom gave their lives for the cause. Official Coinage began in the 1840's and quite a few different pattern pieces were struck in the 1860's through the 1890's. The Flag of Liberia is very very similar to ours except it has only one white star. Many of The pattern coinage pieces have "In God we Trust" and designs that are very similar to our early coinage. The likeness of Miss Liberty, Shield with wreaths, etc. Hope that helps, but I just nicked the surface of the fantastic history behind the Creation and survival of another American style Republic.

"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of all those who threaten it" saw it on a poster today.

    Have you tried NEN? (northeastcoin.com)

They're the ones I think of when I think of nice certified World coins.

Actually, I just checked for you. The only thing they had under Liberia was an erroneously-listed 1926-S Lincoln cent!

However, it would not surprise me at all if they occasionally got nice early Liberia material in stock. I like the stuff, too, though I have never owned any. The proofs have tempted me a time or two.

Also, you should express your interest on the "Darkside Weekly Swap" thread. This is the weekly thread on the World Coin forum where members put all their stuff for sale (and wantlists, too). Just look for "Weekly Swap"- the thread is hosted by different members each week. It's sort of the Darksider's alternative to this main BST forum, for World coins only.

  • Thanks lordMarcovan,

Yes NorthEast is a great group with a lot of great coins. Actually I have purchased two Liberian coins from them in the past

as well as other World coins. I'll also do as you recommended re listing in the World Swap area.

65+ is going to be tough, in my opinion. NEN has had a fair number of Liberian proofs of that era over the years, but only 1 or 2 that I recall in 65+.

I used to own this one (now long gone) that I had bought from NEN:

    Small world. image

I thought briefly about collecting the various patterns, but found them too few and far between, especially in high grade and slabbed.
  • CoinPictures,

No doubt, and it is taking time. Thanks for selling that one, I've really enjoyed its colors.

  • Casting out again, haven't even got a bite.
Some great fishing this has turned out to be so far. Guess all those Liberians already have great homes. But, if you are looking to offload your Liberians, I'll pay going or more.
