Has anyone ever had luck detecting coins in San Francisco, Denver, Philly or....

...... any of the other cities where mints existed in the USA?

I live in the SF Bay Area and went to a local coin show. Some boy scouts had a table set up at the entrance to the bourse and in their dispay cases they had on display some coins which were found in San Francisco parks by metal detectorists. Some of the coins included seated liberty silver coins that looked to be in VF+ condition.

Makes me wonder how many great coins are buried in and around cities where mints are/were located.

Why would there be any more coins in those cities than any other?
    Its all relative
  • i live in san jose and have found almost all of the S mint barber dimes. i've been lucky to dig 1901s, 1903s and 1904s dimes. all worth a few hundred each.

There was that story a couple of years ago (made Coin World) about someone detecting at the old Philly Mint site and found some sort of die trial scraps for a DB dollar (or something like that, haha)... I'll see if I can find anything about it.
