New collection: N.O. Mint Type Set.

Im new to the registry area in numismatics, and Ive learned alot by just looking through the sets online, and reading posts here.

Im looking for general info on these sets and how they work.

If anyone feels like guiding me abit while I cut my teeth, Id greatly appreciate it. Feel free to PM me anytime to chat. Id rather not broadcast what Im working publicly right now, for personal reasons, but I will soon.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to provide.

In response to your thread on the Registry. I like your avitar...pretty coin, but your forum name suggests you collect Lincoln cents. I like the Registry because it is a nice way to show what you have and keep track of your coins. I like PCGS slabbed coins for protection and storage and mostly for resale for my family's sake when I am gone. I would be interested in what you collect and how you feel about the hobby.

  • Thank you guys. I originally wanted to keep this collection under wraps until I was about 25% of the way done. But, I figured whats the fun in that. Maybe some of you guys have some knowledge you care to pass on.

After some serious thought, and looking into alot of different series and denominations, Ive come to chose the Complete New Orleans Type Collection. I have some other ideas about this set overall that Im thinking about as well, but this is phase one of the N.O. Collection.

I have picked the dates that are not already part of the set, but those will remain private. image
Here is a link to the N.O. complete type set:

The dates listed are required. The rest are all going to be coins with a mintage under 1million, and with alot of them having a mintage under 100K. The coins are tough, key and semi key date coins, and the rest are just plain tough. Im going to be going for a grade range of AU 50-53-55, with original, lightly toned, problem free surfaces. image Id like to stick to this grade range at all costs. Im really shooting for a well matched even looking collection.

Im not really looking for the competition or anything, just putting together a cool set and something I can leave for my children when the time comes. In figuring out this is the set for me to work on, Ive come to the conclusion that this will be my specialty in numismatics. Since discovering this collection, Ive been thoroghly interested in anything I can find about this Mint and the coins it produced. I hope to gain some friends here while building this collection, and I hope to be one day a helping hand to another collector interested in this area of numismatics.

Thanks for taking the time to read and thanks for any help you may offer to me now, and in the future. It is very appreciated.

Anyone here into the coins from New Orleans? Info, pics, anything N.O. related?

what a feat and sweet set when finished....

you'd have to have one heck of a celebration when you acquire the last piece

i think you'll love having a focus as well as how set registry adds an element to your collection too

  • Thanks Teddy.

Thats what Im shooting for with it.

I have already picked the last piece I will add. Its the 'Holy Grail' with in the collection. and will cost almost as much as the rest of the coins combined. But, this is the coin that I will wait for and find that 'one'. Im sure its out there and this piece will be the corner stone to this collection. Its not hard to figure out what coin it is, but Im not doing all the work for ya. image

So far, I havent bought anything for this set, but soon I will. Im trying to go slowly and really learn about these coins before I get my feet wet.

Thanks for the ears and the kind words.

This collection should be alot of fun...

I think itll be a very fun set to work on. Im already having tons of fun just reading about these coins and the Mint that made them.

I think the name 'The N.O. Collection' sounds good. Short and sweet ya know?
