yeah I think the Pirates will come up a bit short but I'm happy for the Pens for taking out the Swedish Elite Red Wings. I' forgot Guerin already won the Cup but still there are other veterans like Satan who haven't so good for him...and how about them apples Maryanne Hossa...oops!
Congrats to the Pens, but I hope you meant last 3 Pittsburgh teams to win a game 7 for a championship because otherwise we got:
NHL 1987 — Edmonton wins Game 7 at home by a 3-1 score, the Oilers third Cup victory vs Philadelphia Flyers 1994 — The New York Rangers beat Vancouver. 2001 — Colorado Avalanche beat New Jersey. 2003 — New Jersey beats Anaheim. 2004 — Tampa Bay beats Calgary 2-1 in Game 7. 2006 — Edmonton forces a Game 7 but loses 3-1 in Carolina. It’s the Hurricanes first and only Stanley Cup victory.
MLB 1982 - St. Louis 1985 - KC 1986 - NY Mets 1987,1991 - Twins 1997 - Marlins 2001 - Diamondbacks 2002 - Angels
So like I said, good work, but damn those game 7s are happening a fair bit recently, especially in hockey.
Now if the Pirates made the Playoffs.... then I would start watch for the four horseman.
EDIT: Ahh... if it's the road team you speak of, different matter entirely.

Last three professional teams to wins game seven for a championship...
Congrats to Pittsburgh. I am by nature a very pessimistic sports fan. Being a diehard follower of Michigan State University and all four Detroit professional sports team does that to a guy. But not in a million years did I think, at any point after being up 2 games to none, that the Wings would lose this series. Guess that says a lot about the Penguins.
That was a terrific game last night and the Pens did it with Sid The Kid out half of the game.
The Pirates are nothing more than a glorified minor league farm team. They get some great prospects and once they develop into some decent talent, the ownership moves them on to the highest bidder on a competitive team and in return receives a decent lump sum of cash and some more great prospects who will later develop into some decent talent, and then the vicious cycle continues......
<< <i>Either way, the state of PA as a whole has dominated in recent history. >>
Even the Hershey Bears (the Washington Capitals affiliate) of the American Hockey League won the Calder Cup league championship last night beating the Manitoba Moose.

Hershey Bears = best minor league franchise of all time. If you don't believe me, look it up. They've been around since the 30's, sell out nearly every game in a beautiful 10,000 seat arena, and have the most titles in AHL history. Not too many minor league franchises can claim that history. My dad's from the Hershey area and whenever we make it up there during the winter, it's a MUST to go to a Bears game! I've still got my championship shirt from when they won the Calder Cup in '06.
A season over .500 would be like a championship for the Pirates.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason. Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason. My Pirates Collection
yeah, gotta offer my humble, heartbroken congrats to the Pens as last night they happened to be the best team. At least our Tigers got a slim shot this year!!! Should be a Pitt team we can beat this weekend
Two of the best NHL playoff games I have seen were games 6 and 7. Two fine teams standing toe to toe for all the marbles, neither willing to give an inch.
The Pens won with heart and grit. If you didn't like those games, you will never like the NHL, IMHO.
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh fans on the board. You guys have had quite a year so far.
Thank you all for your warm fuzzy feelings about the Penguins. But for those who bash the Pirates, while I am hardly an apologist for their inept and stupid moves the last 20 years, if they had a $250M payroll like the Yankees (5x more than the Pirates current payroll), who's to say that they wouldn't be competitive?
Pittsburgh's success in hockey and football (two leagues with parity) should not be tarnished with the Bucs' futility. It is comparing apples and oranges in my view as the Pirates failures is more rooted in the huge and absurd payroll imbalances in MLB. They have had to take unnecessary risks with trades out of desperation. Usually the guy with the big wallet can push the little guy around due to their inferior negotiation status. Happens at card shows, happens in MLB.
For those who want to point out the success of the Rays, A's, Twins, etc..." How many World Series have they won? ZERO.
Not whining. Just pointing out that most of the congrats came with a "but the Bucs still suck" and that I don't think the Pirates should diminish Pittsburgh's sports accomplishments, especially since the MLB is set up to destroy the small-market teams.
That said, I'm still glad I didn't grow up in Cleveland, Cincy, Columbus, oh wait, basically OHIO--the place where you take a piss at the gas station while passing through. At least they have Lebron James...for one more year
hey now... please don't forget "the D"!!! we (not me) piss plenty at our pumps, speed away without paying and get caught 20 feet down the road after our early-80s model Monte Carlos with tricked out rims get their tires blown out by a crater sized pothole.....
