German Mint Sets

Anyone have any of these? Even though I collect German coins, I just realized that these aren't things you see everyday... If you have some sets show some pics! Also, if you have any for sale let me know!

  • I recently purchased a mint set and a proof set from MA Shops. Don't have them in hand yet, but here are the seller's pics.

  • I've got a few East German PP (proof) sets from 1989, the year the wall came down. For proof coins with only a mintage of 2300 (compared to the equivalent West German ones having mintages of 70,000), I figured the 100-130 Euros per set I paid was a bargain. Pictures? Don't have any, but here are some currently in MA shops:

One thing I have noticed with them all is that the 20pf coin is corroded, even when they don't show it in the pics. Not toning but corrosion. Figure it will be near impossible to get an uncorroded proof 1989 20pf in the future so I'm I've taken the coins out of the sets and put the in capsules in an intercept shield box, hope that will preserve them better.

  • No, I purchased both of the ones I posted from the same MA Shops seller.

For comparison, I believe the price on the 1998 set was about $20 plus shipping. I haven't looked for these on eBay, so I have no idea what they are selling for there.

All 5 mints for around 100-170 bucks.
  • That's in line with what I've seen for pricing in other venues too.

Picked this one up for 19 bucks..... probably few more bucks than what it is worth but, I like it.

  • Nice pickup.

So, is this the first step toward putting together a full date/mint set? image

Nah, just another collecting interest (I'll get any and all of them that I can - eventually I'll get a complete year set! P.S. Would love to have some 1977's)... I got this one just a little bit ago for 10 bucks!! Heck of a pick up! 1981 East German Proof Set, 25,000 made. Krause has it at $55.00

Picked up these 4 1980 German Proof Sets... 4 different mints all for $31.00!! I thought for sure they'd go for more.
