how to return item on ebay "officially"

So I wasn't happy with a card I bought and am returning - is there a way to due this officially through ebay without logging a complaint (seller is agreeable, but I want protection just in case he wants to pocket the dough)?
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

If you paid via PayPal, you can file a SNAD claim at PP.

PP will ask you to send the card back to the seller. When
your USPS Delivery Confirmation number shows the item
was delivered, PP will credit your account.

Send it back with sig confirmation. If there are any problems you can always dispute it with paypal.

What is SNAD Claim? And if we don't start the process beforehand, would I have any claim if he never refunded the money but I have a signature confirmation?

    Significantly Not As Described

    ..........

I would NOT trust any EBAY seller that I did not know to return
an item without having first filed a SNAD claim.

You would still have a claim, but it could be more complicated.
It's really best to wait for PP to advise you to return the item.

    .......

SigCon is required for items over $249.99.

DelCon works for lower priced items.

If the seller agrees to"take back" the item and he has decent feedback, I wouldn't worry!

How much money are we talking about here?

If it is under 50.00 I'd just return it without filing the SNAD.

If it is a substantial amount I might email the seller first and advise him

that for the protection of the both of us I am filing a SNAD.

I would do my best to keep it from being adversarial.

I agree with rbdjr1 especially since you already said that the seller is agreeable to the return.
Simply check his feedback and return the card.
It is the civilized way to handle a simple problem.
When a SNAD is filed on a good seller perfectly willing to help an unsatisfied buyer it's really an ahole move.
If there's any issue with the return you can always file the SNAD, but then the seller deserves to have one filed.
You'll get a refund either way.

$215 was the total. all communication has been through ebay, and really want to avoid the SNAD after reading on that. I will return with signature confirmation and if there's problems go through Paypal and just let them know we tried to resolve outside of their process, keeping all communications as proof. His feedback is fine, so that doesn't bother me.
thanks for the input - Pete

  • I agree with Steve. I would send a polite email to the seller and explain that you must file the SNAD claim to protect yourself and tell him you will drop the claim once you receive the refund.

I agree with the way you chose to handle this.

The important thing is to keep it professional and not adversarial.
