The latest edition of the PCGS ECOLLECTOR online contains a very interesting article by Jamie Hernandez about the 1909VDB MPL. For those who own an example and for those who aspire to own an example, I recommend reading this here.
Has anyone ever heard of a person having a 1909 VDB that he/she thinks is an MS coin that turns out to be a Matte Proof? (how hard is it to tell the difference between an MS and a Matte Proof Lincoln?)
Its not too hard to tell the difference. Just look for the little die chip to the right of the M in UNUM. almost like another dot seperating the words, but smaller and crescent shaped. that would show up on circulated coins Im sure IF you knew where to look.
I looked at the half dozen or so circ. vdbs that were floating around between my grandmothers and my kid collection. but no seegar.

Very good article and I especially liked the coin that Jaime used for demonstration. I think I know the owner of that coin.

<< <i>Nice article, Jamie. Now who owns that very good looking VDB?? >>
Since you can't see it in the Registry, check out Brian's Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Curly as Jaime selects his VDB once again for an Ecollector article.

If so, tell us the story with all of the details.
