question on 'big' BGS slabbed card...

Got a bgs graded '81 topps card in the mail hoping for it to be a crack to a psa 10. However, its around 1millimeter longer on both sides than multiple other cards I have (graded and raw). Thoughts? Can i assume its sheet cut or something that PSA would reject in a heartbeat?

Could be sheet cut, could also just be a big card. I've pulled odd-sized cards from packs before.

Get a good loupe and inspect the edges of the card, as well as any other crisp "known good" 1981s you might have. If the slabbed card looks totally different, you might have something with a "custom" cut.

If its a 9.5 of a tough rookie or very high priced hofer that would go for big bucks in psa 10 there is a 90% chance it is sheet cut.

If its a high pop card that isnt very expensive its probably ok

Nailed it - and it has an unnatural curve up at the bottom versus straight or bowed out at the middle like you would normally see. It's going back. Thanks for (confirming) my suspicions.

"It's going back?" Good luck with that. Hopefully you had a seller who doesn't mind taking returns on graded cards.

I made sure that I could return if I wasn't happy with the card - lose out on shipping, but worth gamble.

So you come here asking advice and won't even disclose what card it is?

Forget about anyone else here that may buy it and make the same mistake you made.

At least you got your answer :eyeroll:

Man - I've got some NBA Live '96 to play - cut me some slack. It was an '81 Dan Hampton BGS 9.5...i don't blame the seller here...unless he tries to job me on the refund now.
