Thinking of a new side project... 58 Braves Pennant

Long ago my grandparents gave me a pennant that is identical (thou a bit worse condition) than this:

Now I was thinking of collecting the players present on the pennant, perhaps for a display --- perhaps as a distraction just from the 1975s. Regardless players like Joe Koppe, Mel Roach, Juan Pizarro only had cards in 1959... pennant 1958. Do I go for 1958 or '59 cards?

Truely an important question... curious as to your opinions. The autos are super nice as well... oh the fun of new projects...

I'd go for 1958 becasue those were the cards that kids were ripping out of packs that spring/summer/fall

  • 58s... in looking at psa's pop report it seems there's even a good deal of autos available. Might pose more challenging (which I'm not sure if I'm looking for yet...) Is there a way to pair down the pop report for auth'ed signatures?

Kinda fun to kick around new projects and thanks for the replies.

Nice idea on the project. I'd go for the 58's too. That pennant must be worth a few bucks too!

Not sure on it's value... I had it hanging in my room along side my first Brewers game penannat in my room for pretty much my entire childhood. Hopefully my avatar will have some interest and it can hang in his room with some 58s.

The centerpiece could be the Mantle/Aaron special card dual auto. WOW!!!

I love the idea of that project. I collect 1958 Braves memorabilia and have a pennant similar to that, just a different pic on the pennant.

I would go with the 58's personally, the pennant is from that year. There are a lot of ways you could display the pennant and the cards.

Please keep us up to date on what you decide, being a fan of that team, I am really interested in what you end up doing.

Do 1958 cards of everyone that has one, and do 1959 cards of Koppe, Roach, and Pizarro. Neat idea!

Ticket stubs from that series pop up on eBay fairly often...that'd be a nice addition to the display as well.

I agree with this. I think that '58s and '59s would look good together. Great idea, Jake!

    PS. Any new Campy's lately?

I'll keep my eyes peeled. Never thought of that idea. Now this is getting exciting.

Um actually last one I got was the Drake's Cookies. I just bought 4sc out of their $5 PSA 9 1975s... so figured I should start a new project... er... image

Thanks for the tips guys. I've been spot checking autographs from '58 and '59 and surprisingly there's a lot available. I'm a major completionist though and not having the possibility of all autos would be a bit disheartening. I might currently leaning toward nicely centered PSA 7s 1958 non-signed as my son (so I hear from his Mother) is looking for a nice couple for fathers day! image

  • Roselle vs Roselli -- interesting only appeard in Topps cards in '56, '61 and '62.

Looking at several other banners made around that time who was and wasn't included is interesting. Thanks again for the suggestions.

    Interested? If so, pm me.

I like the idea of sticking with the 58Ts and 59s where needed.

Are you planning on mounting the cards with the pennant? If so, the good thing is ya don't have to have perfect copies.

Good luck on your project - I like it!
