Stoney, as far as wishing you luck goes, I'd say you've already got a good run of it going. Amazing that out of 4 boxes you've already pulled some really nice cards. Can't wait to see what the other 8 yield - you have the makings of a really hot case.
Those are the first relics you've pulled other than the dual auto relic? You're still way ahead - 5 autos vs 3 relics (counting the dual on both sides). Nice Melky to boot.
1 complete master set 2 master partial sets (missing about 10 sp's and 7 inserts each) 4 complete base sets in addition to the above 1 partial base set missing about 15 73/100 chrome + 30 dupes 23/100 refractors + 1 dupe 2 black refractors (melky/medlin) 6 clubhouse collection (hernandez/bruce/chipper/hanley ramirez/kawakami/adam jones) 1 dual cc musial/holliday 44/60 2 blue real one autos gio gonzalez/ brian barton 2 red real one autos both irv noren 17&33 of 60 1 cc dual auto relic ethier/noren redemption #/10 4 1960 buybacks (unopened) 12 panels (unopened)
I should have enough trade bait to finish the 2 masters, chrome and 1 partial base set as I still have a good portion of base and about 15 sp's to trade. Everything from the refractors down on the list is for sale or trade if anyone is interested.
I asked Brent (brentandbecca on eBay) about variations; he said he hadn't seen any after busting twelve cases. Either there are none, he wasn't very observant, or they are few and far between.
WOW - Pedroia is card #15 and that's in the regular set. The High numbers start at 501. So they actually printed up a whole new #15 error to insert in the high series? That's pretty stupid
Stupid. But true. I opened my first box tonight. Nothing spectacular but for anyone that would like to know what my box yielded, here is the breakdown:
SPs: 8 (689-692-694-701-703-709-712-717) TNs: #1 Roger Maris/Dustin Pedroia and #6 Roger Maris/Grady Sizemore FBs: #02 Jason Giambi, #07 Todd Helton, #08 Mariano Rivera RPs: #08 Brett Anderson, #15 David Price Chromes (#ed to 1960): 7 (with the best being Gordon Beckham) Chrome Refractors (#ed to 560): 2 (#121 Lastings Milledge and #137 Jose Contreras) Clubhouse Collection: Chad Billingsley Box Topper: 1960 Original (unopened) Box Panel: 1960 Panel (unopened)
Has anyone noticed that in this release this marks the first time that I know of where inserts (game used and autos) are not "grouped"? No more Group A, Group B, etc. I kind of liked the groups -- especially when you pulled a Group A!!
Quality control is very good as I had no issues with my box. My biggest complaints are the senseless stamping of the original box toppers and these two per pack Updates & Highlights cards.
Other than that, this release is OK. It looks like that 2010 is going to add a most needed punch to the Heritage line. Can't wait! But while I am waiting I will open more of this!
TOPPS CONFIRMS SIX VARIATIONS IN HERITAGE HIGH NUMBER BASEBALL
In similar style to what it did in its regular 2009 Topps Heritage Baseball release by recreating variations from the original 1960 Topps Set, Topps is confirming that there are also six variation cards in the just-released Heritage High Number Edition. The variations are extremely short printed.

Thanks, Stoney - here's a larger pic of the latest silliness.
I think Topps may have done what I thought was undoable, killed Heritage for me. I'm going to think long & hard about buying a case next year. Right now I'm leaning towards an emphatic "no". I'll definitely do a Dodger set, but for the value (ha ha) one gets out of a case, my dollars are better spent in a different direction. I'm thinking at the most, I'll let people like brentnbecca do all the grunt labor of busting and collating sets, and I'll pick one up three or four months after it's released from them or someone else for a lot less than it would cost me to bust a case and still not have a master set of anything. Heck, I'd be able to do a master set of both the base and chrome sets, and still have a lot of money left over to chase the relics if I so chose.
I'm with Geordie - between the high number set and the number of variations, Topps has pretty much killed Heritage for me too. I dutifully chased these "errors" in prior sets, and managed to get them all except for the Hairston chrome from one of the high number sets in the last couple of years. At this point, to complete a set with all the variations, you have to spend an extra $50 per card (and that may be conservative) for 6 or 7 of these cards. Just for the '09 set, there are 13 variations, correct? (7 in the regular set, plus these 6 new ones). I always thought that the three subsets were sufficient (and I frequently found the non-baseball Flashbacks sets to be overkill too), and the three levels of chrome, while I only collected the base chrome sets, were OK too.
The worst part is that I always found the trading and banter around Heritage (and to a slightly lesser extent A&G) to be the most fun...
Has anyone noticed wrinkling on their chromes and refractors? Many of my 25 chromes (close to 1/2) have a wrinkle from top to bottpm on the right edge, and 3 of my 4 refractors do as well.
If anyone gets any buybacks of Pirates players, I am interested.
