a question for phillies fans, who is the best catcher in phillies franchise history?

In the last couple years I've been more and more impressed with Carlos Ruiz as a player... foremost, his defensive skills... blocking balls and covering/block the plate on putouts are spectacular, excellent arm and if the pitcher keeps the player close he's got a chance to throw out any baserunner...maybe it's only emphasized this year since it seems they've had 10-12 putouts at the plate this year... offensively, a solid player. last year he had a rough patch after a good year and it hitting well this year. in the playoffs last year he was excellent....

Being relatively young, I can't critically remember a player like Bob Boone, it seems he was similar looking at his wiki entry: excellent defense, average offense, owns a WS ring...

any other catchers spring to mind? noone of late. I remember lance parrish (in the original STERIODs user club) huge disappointment. lieberthal? meh injury prone and never won anything. darren daulton sucked, IMHO. terrible average and average defense. maybe 2 good years offensively....

does anyone remember Bo "Look out for the satellite dish" Diaz?

Anyone put up a name who's BETTER than RUIZ?

Lieberthal did a very nice job. Yes, Daulton had his faults, injury prone was a main problem, but he was a good leader and got some nice clutch hits over his career. Boone overall was the best and I don't think it's really debatable - one of the most consistent catchers in MLB history for longevity.

Ruiz is doing a nice job but I think it's way too early yet to adequately compare with the others.

I figured boone would get the nod so far but never having seen him play I was looking for comparison...

we'll see what ruiz does if he can hang on for a while....

The only thing good about Darren Daulton was his wife

Daulton was a beast for a few year, better than any other catcher. I really don't remember Boone as I was a kid when he played. Of course
the late Bo Diaz was popular. Overall career probably goes to Boone, but Daulton had the best few years at his prime. Ruiz can also smack
it around and another ring would solidify him as the best C ever.

Bob Boone, hands down, over the course of an entire career.

tell me why? that much better defensively? offensively? or is it because you were single in the 80s and have better memories of the era?
