Mine that Bird fails to live up to the hype at the Belmont

Came in third place, no jockey triple crown.

I'm not disappointed, I thought the jockey was getting rather arrogant with talk of a "guaranteed" win.

I thought before the race for a multitude of reasons, that horse had little chance of winning the race...but that being said, Borel moved the horse way too soon, and that wide move at the top of the stretch cost the horse ground and tired out the horse just enough to lose second place - he wasn't gonna beat the winner no matter what.

But I give that horse a lot of credit where credit is due - that's one game thoroughbred.
  • I'm not disappointed either. I thought Borel was incredibly lucky in the Kentucky Derby. It's unheard of to be able to go from last to first ALONG THE RAIL in a 20-horse field. Heck, the rail is not usually open to make such a move even in an 8-horse field.

The "reason" Borel swung the horse wide in the Belmont is that he knew and he's right that NY jockeys are tough SOB's and won't willingly "giveup" the rail...jockeys who giveup the rail don't find themselves getting many mounts in NY, and that's a compliment to the skill of NY riders.
