What is Peyton Manning's Best RC?

I want to pick up a Peyton Manning RC while the market is down and before football season kicks off.

I am considering the 98 SP Authentic #'d/2000, 98 Topps Gold AUTO, and the 98 Bowman Auto. All three in PSA 9 fit my budget. I am not a huge football collector, so I am reaching out the community, which of these three cards would be the best card to add to my collection. Thanks in advance for the help.

As crazy as it seems, I say 1998 SP Authentic. It is widely considered his best rookie, with exception to the 98 Contenders RC AU. Make sure you get one that is machine numbered and not hand numbered. The other two are also good choices also. I have always liked the 1998 TSC Co-Signers Manning/Marino Dual Auto.

    Aren't the Die-cut's #d/1000?

die cuts are #'d to 500

I would say without question the BEST MANNING ROOKIE CARD is the PLAYOFF CONTENDERS AUTO ROOKIE-

The SP Authentic #'d 2000 is the card I would choose of three the OP stated.

Well then for certain I would go with the SP factory #'d if possible.

One thing I can share for certain that might affect this card value down the road is that those rookies were a bit oversized(very condition sensitive as well from pack) and the trimmers got them through PSA, BGS etc. I remember them coming to the Nashville Tri Star Show and buying up my NM-MT Griese, Taylor etc. They had a small ruler they would use to measure them back then I had no idea what they were doing but now I totally understand.

    That is just FYI

I was wondering why machine #'d are worth more, or 'better', than hand #'d copies?

The hand numbered versions are replacements for ones people pulled that were damaged. They just numbered them the same as the machine numbered one that was returned. They generally sell for less money and beckett use to have a .8X multiplier for them.

The SP fac # is definately the one 2 get. People would damage a card that wasn't a perfect card and then send it in 2 get a perfect card.
the fac machined came directly from packs.
The SP is the one to get for the FB psa registry. In the long run that will be his most desirable....although there may be some lesser pop cards that might be worth more.
The registry doesn't allow auto cards or the die cut version of the SP.

    1998 SP Authentic /2000

In my opinion, that is the best rookie card of Manning.

The Playoff Contender Auto is nice but it is extremely difficult to find one with a nice autograph.

Most autographs are faded or smudged.

I'm with everything Allen said in regards to the SP Authentic but if I had a choice and the money was there I would be all over the Playoff Contenders. However, as already mentioned, be careful with the autograph.
