Will PCGS storage box hold NGC slabs?

Bayard1908Bayard1908 Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭✭
My safe deposit box is getting out of control, and I need to organize it.

I seem to remember hearing that the NGC storage box will hold PCGS or NGC slabs; but, NGC slabs will not fit in the PCGS storage box. Please confirm if true.

Also, what is the width and height of the storage boxes. I might have to chop them into sections or trim them in order to fit in my SDB.

PCGS boxes do not fit NGC slabs.

NGC boxes will hold PCGS slabs. PCGS Boxes will hold NGC Slabs, but the lid will not close.

You are correct about PCGS boxes not holding NGC coins without a rubber band to hold the partially closed lid. NGC new silver boxes hold even the old fat NGC holders, along with PCGS holdered coins, and all of the larger ANACS holdered coins.

In the large safety deposit boxes, like I use, PCGS boxes can be stood on end, but the NGC boxes are too long to stand on end. I can squeeze in eight NGC silver boxes, 3 sideways-3 sideways-2 upright between. The deeper large boxes then hold 16 of the new NGC silver boxes, but it is a very tight fit. The older NGC boxes fit nicer, but some of the NGC holders are a tight fit.

The PCGS boxes on end are much easier to store, and grab, but the necessary rubber bands snag often.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

NGC will fit, but the lid won't slip all the way down. A couple of rubber bands will fix tho..

Whitman makes a blue hard plastic slab storage box that will fit either. Why pay extra $ for a stupid logo on the lid?

Simply put! NGC Slabs are Too Tall for PCGS boxes. image

Also an option: Do away with the clunky exterior boxes when storing slabs in a SDB anyway. I place each slab into a polyethelene sleeve (to prevent scratching) and jam those into the SDB. Enough of them and they just stack up like so many library books. The plastic box offers no particular atmospheric protection.

NGC boxes are superior to the PCGS boxes.

But you can put NGC coins in PCGS boxes, you just have to lay them down on edge. Not an efficient storage method, but it works if you only have a few NGC slabs.

Not a bad suggestion, but I now use Intercept Shield track boxes to store my slabs in the SDB. They do afford some protection and also accomodate PCGS and NGC slabs with no problems.

The IS track boxes don't work on the old fattie NGC holders.

I wish PCGS boxes would house NGC coins. But like their registry sets, NGC is not quite good enough. You think it's intentional?

I gave up on PCGS boxes for the reasons stated.
I use NGC boxes which fit both. Some of the old small slabs are the exception.
