Need opinions on selling.

Hi there. I am looking for some advice. I have a lot of things that I bought over the years and its starting to take up way to much room. I am looking to sell most of it now, because I have changed my collecting goals recently and am now focusing on a couple of players. I am wondering what is the best route to go selling these items? I have sold on ebay before but I don't know if thats the best way to go. I really didn't get the prices I wanted, but I did honor all auctions. The items I am trying to sell are some graded cards(baseball and hockey), signed photos, signed baseballs and a couple of signed jerseys. Some of these autographs have been authenticated by psa and jsa. Some have been bought from sellers I trust (not off ebay) and some come from steiner or mounted memories. These are not really high dollar items maybe between the range of 5 dollars per card up to 150 dollars a piece for the jerseys. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately eBay is the best venue for those items. You could try the BUY/SELL/TRADE section of the forum...if you do go the eBay route you could try listing the cards in lots (by year or player) that has always worked for me. For instance if you have three cards of different players, but same year, you may have two people bidding on yoru auction who want different players...this seems to bring in the most money.

I tested some cards recently on eBay (just to see what the market would sell them for) and listed them for .99 each...a lot sold just for that...some sold for around 3 to 5.oo ea. Right now is not a very good time to sell. Also, powersellers have driven down the price/value/demand of a lot of cards. For instance I bought a lot of Mike Bossy cards a couple years ago and paid 30-50 each. Now they are going for 5-10 each (which will not last forever) and when I try to sell any to people who are just getting into the hobby they think I am crazy for asking a high price (which is actually what they were going for before the market was flooded).

Try the B/S/T boards. You never know...you might sell some stuff here.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I've almost completely run out of space.
When I start selling off stuff, I'm going to offer it on the B/S/T board and then take it to the Bay.

I would reccomend what I did, put your items on Ebay with a "Buy it now" with a best offer option attached to it. It costs very little and you can be in control of how much you accept or not accept.

    Best of luck!

  • Perkdog,

Thanks, thats a great idea. I never thought of the buy it now with best offer. How does that work? How much more fees will ebay take out?
