I'm happy for him. He used to be such an imposing presence on the mound. A well deserved milestone.

How much would a lot of 100 (avg. Mint) Johnson Upper Deck Rookies be worth?

Loved him as the ultimate Yankee killer. Killed them both pitching against the Yanks and for them.

Pretty nice accomplishment though. Always wonder if he will be the last.

  • Actually ESPN did a piece on the possible three hundred game winners. Buehrle (128) and Sabathia (122) have well over a hundred wins already and they are at or under the age of 30. Randy Johnson, the oldest to win 300 only had 64 wins at age 30. This leaves a chance for some others if they can last, to have a shot at it!

Congrats to the Randy. I was lucky enough to see him pitch a couple times with the Indianapolis Indians in AAA ball in 1988. I've got his auto on a program from one of the games somewhere at my parents.

I agree that we might not see this again.
Johan Santana has a shot, but even he would have to average 18 wins a year or so to get there at age 40.

It's primarily about longevity. If a guy can get 50 or 60 wins at age 40 or above, ala Clemens, then there are a lot of people who can get to 300. It's longevity with some consistency. You don't have to win 20 or more in a season. Average 13 or 14 wins a season for 22 years and you got it! I think there will be more 300 game winners... but might be a few years.
  • Randy was a great pitcher to watch. You thought he could win every game he threw. 100 CG in 600 starts with 300 wins is very impressive, especially the complete games, not sure we'll ever see that in our lifetime again. The ticket on the left is one of those CG's, his 128 career win along with Griffey's career 312th HR. 9IP, 1ER, 15Ks in a 3-1 victory. That's what fans expected every time he threw back then.
