Value of the Bump

I decided to check VCP to determine what the value of the bump would be for the 25 cards (<$500), based on VCP. I suppose I should have done this before I chose them, but I was picking the cards most likely to get the bump. I do not intend to sell any of thm.

I submitted 24 PSA 8s from 59-69, plus one PSA 7 (59 Shantz). The biggest surprise was the that the 8.5 61 Mantle A.S. (only one has sold) had only a 5% premium over the 8, and sold than less than some recent 8s. The 61 Sheldon, which is a tough card, also had little premium for the bump.

The following cards sold for significantly more as an 8.5: 59 Maris (255/710), 59 Aparicio (110/394), 61 Maris A.S. (175/333), 64 Aaron (215/415), 67 Clemente (200/400), 67 Perez (120/272) and the 67 Brooks Robinson (314/608).

Some cards I have submitted have not sold in 8.5: 61 Berra, 61 Berra MVP, 61 Gentile, 63 Mays, 64 Niekro Rookie, 66 Perranoski, 67 Shannon, and 69 Aaron.

FWIW, those sample sizes are so small that I think it's a fool's errand to try to glean any useful information from that data.

A bump doesn' t necesarily mean a great increase in value

it may still be not on the high end to a picky collector

I've seen plenty of 8.5's that look worse than some 7's

If you got some high grade bumps than I think you did good in value increase

I surprised by your statement. All the 8.5s I have seen were very nice.
