Auction Ended May 14, 2009; Received Payment June 3, 2009

There's plenty of discussion here on the boards regarding auction payments, e.g., how long should a seller wait for payment, when to give up on a buyer, filing a NPB, etc. For me, good practice or not (but it has turned out to be quite good), I will give a buyer virtually as long as it takes for him/her to send payment. I had an auction end on May 14, 2009 and the buyer sent payment today, June 3, 2009; 20 days after the auction ended. During this time, I sent follow up emails, regularly communicated with the buyer, etc., and he advised that he was having issues with Paypal (SARCASTICALLY - what a shock).
As long as a buyer advises that he still wants the card or intends on sending payment or at least communicates with me and advises as to his situation, however long it takes is fine with me. I figure I'd rather try to work things out with the buyer, rather than go through the whole process of relisting, waiting for the auction to end, requesting payment, etc. (More so because my experience tells me that often times, a card will sell for less the second time around).

was my point of patience exhaustion.
I rarely sell collectibles and only do BINs with Immediate
Payment Required in all categories. Much easier!
.......
Of all the categories I have sold in, collectible buyers
are by FAR the most reliable and honest.

I would have been fine too as long as the lines of communication were kept open

yup, thats all it takes
I didn't even see in his description that he wanted payment within 24 hours - which obviously goes against ebay policy. I usually wait to pay until I get five winning items then just do one Paypal transaction. This means I usually send payment anywhere from 1 to 5 days. Two days after I win this auction I get this message:
Dear mcolney,
u won this lot on 1 June 2009; payment was due yesterday. please pay thru PAYPAL. GOD bless + thanku,
- bama_sid
I got this while paying for his and several items and send this response (again, I should have kept my mouth shut!)
"Payment sent within seven days per ebay TOS. If you want immediate payment you should use BIN with immediate payment. I comply with ebay policy on all my transactions."
This is what I get today:
"Dear mcolney,
buyer unhappy with seller's specific payment terms! i am cheerfully refunding your full purchase price + cancelling the sale.
- bama_sid"
--I just felt like I was being badgered to pay and I'm a customer with 1500+ pos. feedback. I am going to pay for items I win.
Anyway - I denied his request to cancel the transactions -we'll see what happens.

This case is closed. The buyer has declined the seller's request to cancel this transaction.

Simply let seller know that terms in TOS violated ebay policy. Buyer has seven days to pay. I paid
within three days of close of sale via paypal. I would like the item I paid for and totally complied
with ebay policy on this transaction.

This case has been opened by the seller with the following reason: We were unable to resolve a disagreement over terms.
Additional information provided by the seller: buyer unhappy with seller's specific payment terms! i am cheerfully refunding your full purchase price
+ cancelling the sale.

I hope it works out.
EBAY cannot force any seller to complete a transaction.
Sellers can repeatedly refund unwelcome funds and block
payments from unwelcome buyers.
........
The seller here is not likely to recover his FVFs.
........
EBAY has refrained from setting a payment deadline for
buyers as a SERVICE to sellers. A deadline would EXTEND
the time that buyers take to pay; not shorten that time.
The de facto "deadline" - based on the NPB-filing policy -
is something that sellers need to consider when they
set TOS that "require" payments faster than 7-days.
Buyers should prolly consider that it might portend future
controversy, if they buy from sellers whose TOS those
buyers do not plan to comply with.
/////////////////
Insta-Pay via PayPal is still on the drawing board at EBAY/PP.
Registrants who participate would have their payments made
automatically at the END of each auction or BIN.
Lack of communication can result in World Wars for no good reason whatsoever.
<< <i>Wow - Bama_sid is an unreasonable person. Very quickly went from 100% pos. feedback to 98.8%. Already sold item to 2nd bidder. I don't get it? Why is it so hard for people to just play by the ebay rules??? Was it worth the neg. to not work with me? >>
Actually, it's 99.8% and your neg (the 1 of 2 that he's received) was his first in almost 4 years.
It's funny that you took the time to read and explain to him what you incorrectly think are Ebay's offical rules that govern all auctions, but you didn't bother to read the two places in the seller's description where he requested payment to be made within 24 hours. Not saying that 24 hours is reasonable, right, or wrong but those were the terms under which you purchased the item. He sent you a reminder to pay and instead of just paying it and giving the whole situation no further thought, you told him what your payment policy was, why you ignored his, and how he should run his auctions. Like you he decided to exercise his right to do whatever he pleases and gave you a cheerful refund. You replied with a cheerful negative and now have an Ebay horror story to tell your grandkids someday. Well played!
